I tried launch control on a loan 335d, it didn't feel very kind to the gearbox but it gave a brutal launch. Pulled a couple of car lengths on a friend's MK3 Focus RS using launch control which surprised both of us.

The car also had adaptive suspension, I am fairly sure it stiffened up the rear dampers to maximum using launch control comparing it to full throttle in Sports+ where the dampers are in sport but they weren't as stiff causing the rear to slam down on the launch.

My 2013 BMW F11 (5 Series Estate) needs new front brake pads, according to the i-drive.

Are all brake pads compatible (in terms of tracking the wear) or do you need specific ones compatible with the wear sensor?

I need to try it in the 530 before I sell it.

Put the car in Sports+, gearbox in sports and foot down very hard on the brake pedal (first time I didn't have it on hard enough) floor the throttle a flag flashes up on the dash and let go of the brakes. I don't think you will get it much quicker than just flooring in Sports mode as I have always found them light on traction from a standing start, a 535d is almost comical if it is wet.

Interesting. Don't need to hold the brake in the M5 and you can set the launch revs with the cruise control (to a max of 2900rpm I think).

It will be due to it not having a torque converter auto, holding it on the brakes allows it to load up the gearbox first.

The new M5 with the ZF box and xdrive will be mental to 60 probably sub 4 seconds.

Complete rubbish unless you have dreadful tyres.

I have an F10 535d and a E89 35i DCT and in Sport+, maximum attack driving I rarely if ever break traction at the back, even from a standing start when trying to pull away as fast as possible.

What tyres do you have? I have Turanza run flats on mine (factory tyre?) and it breaks traction if I floor it in sports from standing.

I have had a few F10s all on factory tyres, Pirellis being the worst, none of them could do a foot to the floor launch without traction control intervening, no doubt a set of PS4S would help.

Did you not post about the lack of traction your 535d had in the wet ?

EDIT yes you did

Just thought I'd chime in to say that the Goodyear Excellence RFTs on the back of my 535d are terrible when it is cold. We had a day here when the temp in the morning was 3c and even after about 10 miles they were still really bad. Today in the damp was warmer but they still really struggle with even moderate throttle application. Such a shame that they are basically brand new as I wouldn't otherwise hesitate to bin them.
