BMW and M Power Owners

My torqueless V8 breaks traction on MPSS if you just floor it from the start with TC off. This is the problem with LC I find, the car doesn't need more revs as the DCT clutch drop as it will break traction easy from a standing start. Even when you drop the revs with the cruise control

Yesterday was the first time I tried MDM and properly went for it, as gunning it normally just made the TC kick in and kill it.

A x35d is gonna be like the Straight 6 twin turbo M cars, too much low down grunt

I have had a few F10s all on factory tyres, Pirellis being the worst, none of them could do a foot to the floor launch without traction control intervening, no doubt a set of PS4S would help.

Did you not post about the lack of traction your 535d had in the wet ?

EDIT yes you did

To be fair they could have not been scrubbed in at the time if new tyres.

Goodyear Excellence RFTs are junk, I stand by my statement that if you have terrible tyres you can't complain about traction (unless you have some sort of powerful car) other than to criticize the actual tyres themselves...

335d only comes with xdrive so very quick off the mark the msport app was registering a 0-60 in 4.4 seconds not sure how accurate that is though. I think it is a great system all the benefits of RWD handling but 4wd traction when needed it's a shame you can't get the 340i with xdrive.

My mate has done 4.4 in his 435d GC. It pulled a car length off the line up against an M4 CP until almost 3 figures before getting reeled in, it's crazy quick.

Yeah I was surprised how well it went on a road trip with most of the new hot hatches none of them could get past it although we are all fairly sensible so weren't flying into three figures where no doubt it would get passed easily. Out of low speed corners was particularity impressive.

Eh? This doesn't make sense. In the M5, the initial launch using LC is all managed, there is literally no slip or spin compared to a non loaded bootful in Sport + (with DSC on, it just cuts the power, with DCS off it just spins).

What doesn't make sense? LC does three things - turns off traction control, lets you pull away with more than idle starting revs and changes gear for you.

The only think you can adjust is the starting RPM. It might be different in the M5, but all you do to start LC is turn TC off and move to DCT into S6, then you hold DCT stick forward. Chequer flag comes up in the dash and you floor the throttle, adjust engine speed with crusie stick (default is just wheelspin as I think its 5000rpm), then just let go of the DCT stick to launch. The car does everything else but without TC

My 2013 BMW F11 (5 Series Estate) needs new front brake pads, according to the i-drive.

Are all brake pads compatible (in terms of tracking the wear) or do you need specific ones compatible with the wear sensor?
The sensor is separate so I expect not pad specific, but afaik it is also needs replacing periodically. It is also unreliable so before you book it in I would visually check the pads as in the F11 it is the rears that weak quickly, the fronts last quite a while.

Thanks

i-Drive says the rear pads have 27,000 miles in them still. I think they might have been changed when I bought the car.

Have been quoted £191.60 for official BMW pads, sensor and fitting (inc VAT) via an unofficial BMW specialist (PMW Ltd)

No idea if that's good or a rip-off.

So it's been a bit under a week with the 640GC, I'm so so impressed with the car, the iDrive is much better than the one in my I8, the engine fits the car really well, its comfortable at speed, not bad around town, give around 35mpg on a run (I would have thought it would be better, I got 34 in the 911). Its so comfortable and VDC makes it nicely adjustable.

I think when the updated 6CG comes out it will really be worth buying assuming it will have all the toys form the new 5/7

Sorry, I thought you were saying it's no different to launching normally in that it just slips and spins as much as if I was to start with DSC off in 1st without LC enabled
