BMW and M Power Owners

anyone here have a 2015/16 X3 3.0 m sport?
Toying with the idea of changing my car!

You would be best off just asking whatever questions you have. There will be people here with similar models or that engine in other cars or experience of that model without owning one etc

Spotted: 17' BMW 540i XDrive at Halfords having a Satnav fitted/mounted.

The owner must really not like the BMW Sat Nav!

This seems strange given a G30 has the absolutely latest BMW system as standard. Plus who gets a satnav 'fitted'? It sticks to the windscreen!

Because the Pro Nav would have taken it over the £40k list price and screwed him on car tax :D

It probably wasn't a satnav at all, maybe a "radar" thing, or a mobile phone holder :p

Had a poke around a colleague's loaner G30 520d SE yesterday. Was nice overall, Pro Nav being standard was a nice touch (no more business Nav in a car where it doesn't belong!) though touchscreen seemed a bit pointless when you have the excellent iDrive controller. It's a shame BMW (and other manufacturers) no longer like to integrate the screen into the dash design, but instead make it so it looks like they shoved it on top of the dashboard as an afterthought. I liked the virtual dials too, which seemed smooth and crisp.

Thought there were a few areas that felt almost cheap for a 5 series though. I'm assuming they won't be because it was only the SE either. Have the bean counters had more say Vs the F10? The shiny black plastic surround around the front interior light looked like it belonged in a 1 series, and the sliding area lid in front of the gear selector didn't have the thickness and solidarity of what I expected to see in a 5 series. Both minor things in what seemed like a lovely package overall, but I think I like the F10 more.

Gonna take some time to adjust to the new 535 style exhaust layout for puny 20d variations too!

Anyone else prefer the F10 Vs G30?

I've not had a proper poke around the inside but exterior aesthetics wise I much prefer the f10. Which is funny because the g30 is largely the same but just made up of many subtle differences. All of which I think add up to detract. Particularly the disgusting front nose grilles. Reminds me of the pugs from angry birds.

It allows them to have a low, sloping dash and therefore more light through the front screen. You can also sit lower and have a lower roofline as a result.

Remember how high the E60 dash was with the screen in the middle?

In many ways I prefer the F10 (not just saying that because I have one), it's more of a classic BMW design. The G30 certainly looks and feels a more modern car though, and I think it'll grow on people over time.

I think the chrome around the kidney grille looks a bit too thick, that's my main issue with the front of it at least. Oh, and they make a point of advertising it with the LED 'Icon' lights yet the 10 or so G30 M Sport's I've seen out and about have all had the standard xenons.

I posted this on Pistonheads yesterday, any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Hi guys, the bearings have seized on my 330d. The car (when it's working) is worth around £2k and I've been getting quotes of around £1k to repair it using a reconditioned unit. I don't fancy spending that much on a car that's done close to 160k miles and is 13 years old so will most likely buy a new one, but I would like it repaired at some point because mechanically it's in excellent condition, aside from the turbo. It's had a new gearbox, full BMWSH, lots of replacement parts etc.
How much of a task is it to replace the turbo myself? I've done a few mechanical jobs like replacing tie rods and electrical work but not undertaken something this big. I've got most of the tools in the form of Halfords professional sets! If I can get a recon unit from Turbo Technics or similar for £350-£400 and it takes me a couple of weekends then I'd definitely consider it, depending how straight forward it is.
Are there any guides out there on how to do it? Any tips or things I need to look out for? Thanks a lot!

Had a Panamera 4E on order but they won't be able to deliver in time. With my 640d warranty running out and me getting bored with it too, I've decided to go for a specced out 530e. Net cost £580 pm via work fully maintained including bik at top rate so not too bad, with just insurance to worry about then.

http://mybmw.co.uk/j3u3d5z6 - don't think I missed anything obvious but added the sunroof onto this options list.

It looks genuinely horrid with those black wheels in combination with the black paint :( I've no idea why thats going to solve the boredom the 640d has caused. It's slower for a start, by quite some margin.

Nice spec, mind. First G30 on here :p

No mention of the aluminium trim Fox?!

Lovely though it is, £60k seems a lot for that (though I suppose being the E and a work car it's cheaper in other areas).

The 640d has warranty running out and me hating not knowing exact costs that might crop up. Also the fact doing crap and sporadic mileage now, mostly short journeys.

£580 pm all in + another £50pm for insurance means fairly cheap car for what it is fully maintained.

I don't care for 0-60 and I don't go past 80-90 so no love lost for me. Would have preferred the E350e but they aren't even taking orders atm.

You can renew it you know :p

It's a brand new car, 'fully maintained' doesn't add much value as it'll need virtually nothing. Especially if your mileage is low.

Renewing is £100 pm, depreciation costs and other potential costs make it cheaper for the side grade.
