It is mind numbingly infuriating. When I upgraded my 2010 530d to a year old one I lost led indicators!!

Crazy. I suppose you can change the halogen bulb for a good quality LED equivalent but it's still not quite the same.

It amazes me that it's taking this long for LED to become the standard across most ranges. It's bad enough that cars came (and still do) with halogen DRLs when they were made mandatory.

My sister had a 15 plate disco from new, numerous faults and breakdowns later it was eventually rejected and replaced under goodwill by JLR for a brand new 16 plate which broke down on the day of delivery!

That was rejected for a new X5 M50d which has been faultless and a world away in terms of reliability and improved build quality, the disco was inferior in every respect.

One is a premium SUV, the other has a premium price but little else.

You keep talking on about this experience, but actually, it's really only you who seems to believe this. Yes, your sister had a bad experience, and most definitely ended up with two Friday afternoon cars. Even I would be soured by the prospect of JLR, but to say the X5 is better in every single way is nothing short of nonsense. The X5, even the new one, cannot hold a candle to the Discovery's towing, wading, space, or off road capability, and that's the crappy old D4. The D5 is even better. My D4 (RIP) was actually my preferred car over the E60 530d. It's level of standard spec made the BMW look stupid given their price points (used admittedly), it was an incredibly agile car that could out space and out pace the nearest BMW/Audi/Merc offering and during my ownership, I had not one issue, mechanically or otherwise (50k, 3 years). Quite possibly the only thing(s) I would have changed were the awful ZF8 Speed Gearbox map and the obviously ageing infotainment / nav system.

I'm sure there are just as many people who have had similar experiences to your sister with BMW too, but I was massively underwhelmed by the X5 (all bar the latest one).

I’m just posting my experience- albeit that of my sister and brother in law- and if you read my further post I make a point of saying a friend has a 64plate Disco that’s been faultless and is an excellent car.

I’m no fan of X5’s personally, but to them (from what they tell me) they are very much impressed by theirs which is incidentally the latest / current one.

I wish BMW would make up their minds whether LED indicators are a thing or not. The facelifted E46 had LED tail lights. The E92 did not. It's like they switch between LED and non LED between model revisions.

£100k for an Alpina B12 anyone?

Shame, it was once a fine car featured in the BMW press, what the seller doesn’t say (surprise surprise) is it was a cat D write off back in 2009, the owner at the time tried to buy it back at a salvage auction but was outbid by somebody by a huge amount.

Interesting the seller has used the original owners file photos of it, none are recent....

Suspect to put it mildly never mind what a dreamer price wise, rare as they are I very much doubt an unmolested one would top £30k....

He’s also listing a 911 GT3, described as “stored in a heated garage” yet photographed - apparently - outside a lock up on a Council estate. for £85k

Funny how a 911 GT3 is supposedly worth less than a Cat D Alpina BMW....

Hmmm :D

Anyone updated their CIC Nav themselves? There are a few options. Do any give the speed camera database?

Yes I updated my F11 535i from 2011 to current maps for free myself. You can download the maps on to a USB stick once you've found them online and then use an Ethernet to OBD interface cable and a laptop to extract an FSC code from your car. I followed a guide I found on a forum for that. I'll see if I can find the guide I used.

Edit: here is it, http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1154524

You missed that the 2007 GT3 was also written off as Cat D... in 2007
