BMW and M Power Owners

bleeding photobucket does my head in - where should one host pics now?

A few tweaks to my M4 this week, a friend was trading his in so grabbed all the 'extra parts' that I could that would have offered him no extra trade in value, all OEM BMW parts too. Performance steering wheel, gear surround and handbrake + gaitor (all carbon fibre / alcantara combos) - and great quality. Also some Competition pack alloys, never used to like these, but suit the car very well.

The only B12s worth £100k are the Coupes.
Quite, but, beautiful as an Alpina B12 850 undoubtedly is, I can think of an awful lot else that I’d drop £100k on first!

I guess rarity is pushing the prices, but it’s getting quite daft now.

I’ve been following an (admittedly imported) e38 750il for a good while now which is up for circa £10k and in near as damn it immaculate condition, it’s not selling, yes the Alpina variant has more power etc and subtle trim differences, but, is it really worth 10 times the price? - only if you’ve more money than sense I’d think.

As I understand it CELIS is a Hella tech that’s essentially a light pipe that lets BMW design even looking lights in cool shapes, pretty sure they used to use them with traditional bulbs too. Similar to how Audi DRLs had a nice even look while everyone else had an obvious line of bright dots (no idea if Audi use CELIS or something similar).

After several years of motorcycle only I finally bought a car and somehow ended up with an old BMW. It'll hopefully be more reliable than my much newer BMW bike, or at least not try to kill me as much. As I do still have the bike I'm relatively happy with most burnination possibilities.

It's a 325i Sport auto with 54k on it and the old cassette deck thing!

My first job is to get an Inspection 2 going as its history is a little patchy recently, or potentially the chap just didn't bother as it's done less than 3k a year for ages. I provisionally booked in at Maidenhead Sytner BMW, however I've just heard of K & M Auto-techniks which is apparently a safer bet. Thoughts?

Looks a lovely old thing!

Have you put the reg number into the bmw website to see if it’s eligible for the used warranty? - worth it given it’s reasonable for a 3 series - but the patchy history might scupper you.

An independent will be cheaper - depending what Sutherland have quoted you? - than a BMW dealer, that said after shopping around I’ve got a more reasonable quote from a local dealer for my e38, but, it’s got a full bmw history and I want to maintain it, if your not worried about that then independent would be the route to go.

Consider also changing the gearbox fluid, they are supposedly sealed for life which is a falicy, well worth doing as the boxes are a weak spot if the oil is old.

Aha I did put it in and... hang on let me check again... yeah, £60.66 a month. I've got the warranty on my bike, which is around £40 a month. With the car I'm hoping that it's old and common (common still?) enough that most things would be cheaper than a £700 a year warranty. £39 a month with a £250 excess (and no breakdown, already have)... give me some scare stories and I may fold :P.

I went through the BMW website for their Value Service thing and got a quote of £369 for the Inspection 2, plus £71 for the brake fluid change. So £440. I'll see what I get from K&M.

Gearbox fluid eh, fair point. My bike model had a sealed for life rear drive fluid. Until they realised it was a bad idea!
