BMW and M Power Owners

If you use genuine parts I'd imagine you could quite hit £700... VANOS, CCV, DISA, cooling system, coolant and lambda sensors, split hoses likely to be needing with age etc. Bushes might need doing too but that's wear and tear - to be honest I'm not sure if any of the things I mentioned would be covered by the warranty, worth finding out.

After several years of motorcycle only I finally bought a car and somehow ended up with an old BMW. It'll hopefully be more reliable than my much newer BMW bike, or at least not try to kill me as much. As I do still have the bike I'm relatively happy with most burnination possibilities.

It's a 325i Sport auto with 54k on it and the old cassette deck thing!

My first job is to get an Inspection 2 going as its history is a little patchy recently, or potentially the chap just didn't bother as it's done less than 3k a year for ages. I provisionally booked in at Maidenhead Sytner BMW, however I've just heard of K & M Auto-techniks which is apparently a safer bet. Thoughts?

That looks very nice for its age, one of the best looking marques.

If you're even reasonably handy then the BMW warranty is (imo) a waste of time on a 2001 E46. You're right that it would need to endure a fairly bad year to cost more than the cost of the warranty for you to fix it.

Then again you won't be fixing it with BMW parts and at a BMW labour rate, but with a car of this age I don't really feel as though that's the point.

Just depends what matters to you really - I can't see the value personally

I guessed Griffo wasn't handy with spanners given the post about paying BMW to do an Insp 2.

What's happening in the US with 1.4m recalled bmw's, are UK cars going to be recalled too, asking for bro as he has a car that would be on the list if we were in the US

Yeah, I'm not sure. With my bikes I'd do brakes and oil and stuff. And I did intend to try and get more handy now I have my own driveway and garage. My original reason for booking BMW for Inspection 2 was "just this once to get a thorough inspection done." Then I realised it's a BMW garage!
So I'll probably go to that above mentioned independent. And do some research.

Have a go yourself then dude, Insp 2 doesn't look that taxing I'd you're not afraid of getting your hands dirty.

Having said that, I see you're in Berks, I know of a place in Lambourn who is trustworthy if you want a once over? Not a BMW specialist but the owner did own an E46 at one point so they do know their stuff, plus it's all generic stuff anyway.

Only cars sold in “cold climate” markets had heaters installed for the CCV system to stop any moisture freezing inside the pipes, so I believe. As the issue is with this heater, I can’t imagine any UK cars have it as we’re not considered cold climate

Great, no need to worry then :)

I owned a m5 f10 earlier this year I sold it in june for a RS4

I have a tempting feeling to go back to a m5 but cant make up my mind

I remember it lacking in feeling and i felt it was a bit bland.

Circa 6 months on and reading peoples reviews and things I cant help but want to try it again...

found a lovely one at a BMW dealer real high spec think i might pull the pin tomorrow

Of course you will:)

You didn't like the last one why try again?

I didnt not like it, i just found it bland, now back in the market for a car you realize for the money they are hard to beat.

Now i wonder if I gave it a chance, I was a bit cheap with it fitted a cheap rear pipe delete which i did not like. I wonder with a few more quality personal touches if I may take to one a bit more. The problem is I am struggling to find other cars that fit the bill too. RS6 C7 would but 50k needed for them.
