I'd love to have the car in the same colour combination and spec, but with the N57 engine (close to 15k miles a year) and Harman Kardon audio.

Currently having to put up with an F30 320D Auto in Luxury trim, and ever since I've gotten it, all I can think of is its shortfalls lol. Still a nice daily driver though.

I now have the HK system which is obviously far better but the base system was acceptable.

The base system must be different to that in the 1, 3 and X1 then. The base system in those is absolutely atrocious. The HK system is miles better but is still lacking

Is the base audio in the F32 the same as F30? If so, I find it very lacking in both highs and lows, and have been thinking it's probably the weakest part of the interior in my car.

I decided after waiting over a year for the right combination, a few threads here and also straying to other models and makes that I’d put up with the black interior when a car in the colour I wanted and with a few other options came up.

I can understand that. When this car came up I wasn't even looking to buy until December, but I knew that if I waited then chances are I'd not find another with the interior colour, at my budget.

I absolutely love my 440i. Had no trouble at all in 3400 miles of ownership so far.

With regards to the speakers, I drove a G30 5 series with base spec speakers, and they were the worst speakers I'd ever heard in a car. Awful. HK was absolutely mandatory for me. The sound is a thousand times better. An X1 I drove had horrendous speakers as well. I can only assume people who think the base speakers are fine have zero interest in music.

It doesn't have enhanced bluetooth which was an option.

This can be enabled through coding. I managed it with a £10 eBay cable and software from f30post forums. You might also be able to do it through the Carly app and a bluetooth obd dongle. There are some specialist garages that may off this service too.

No, it's unofficial so definitely not something they would do for you. It is dead easy though and if you weren't confident you could find someone to do it for you.

I thought that the speakers were the same? With the HK audio you get a few more and the amp and its associated hardware?

No, there's an advanced audio package which adds things like centre speaker etc then there's the HK.

I've had 2 BMW 1 Series in the past (118D & 120D) and absolutely loved them.

I'd be looking at a new to 1year old. I'm currently undecided between petrol and diesel.

Are there any big differences between the petrol and diesel engines on a 1 series? As I said earlier I loved the diesels I had before but now I'm doing around 6K miles a year so thought petrol might be better.

6k miles a year you'll probably save £150 a year diesel vs petrol so barely 2 tanks. So get a petrol - more refined and no DPF to worry about

The lower end, unfortunately, 118i.

When you say more "refined" do you mean it drives nicer? I've never driven the petrol version so can't compare in my head.

Is it worth getting petrol engines remapped? I'm extremely new to this but the very little I've read made it sound like it was more of a benefit to diesel engines.
