BMW and M Power Owners

Glad to see you are enjoying the car (and exhaust!) @Rilot .

Yes mate. I love the car. It has so much personality it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. I've not had that feeling since I sold my S2000. I hate the stereo though. It's diabolical but I expected this as it's a BMW. I've added a small 10" sub and amp in the boot which has taken the pressure off the stock amp to produce bass. I'm going to replace the stock speakers with MB Quart items and add a 5-channel amp to drive it all. I'll probably do that in the next few weeks so watch this space for a write up.
I've got it booked in for a new waterpump and coolant transfer pipe stent (no leaks or anything but figured the WP will die at some point so might as well replace it now), and a transmission fluid + filter change. I've got a couple of PCV diaphragms to fit at the weekend (one is split causing rough running at low RPM due to unmetered air entering the intake).
Currently working out what I need to do to do a CIC retrofit. Seems pretty straightforward if you're cool with coding (I have the kit to do it and a laptop with the right software).

So yeah, I have plans. This one's a keeper.

The start up rattle was definitely there too but this was a noticeable singluar tink/ting sound, metal on metal not rattly, a defined tink... tink... tink. Probably 5 secs max but I can't really recall 100%. Either way I've decided to not pursue (couple more factors included). Tempted to look at an E46 which looks reasonable. Purchase price plus fixing issues should still be well under the purchase price of a 630i which will undoubtedly have issues too.

The 630i felt nice, really nice, although possibly a bit too over assisted, the steering felt like you could drive it with one finger. Found it a bit surreal given the size of the car.

Interesting I thought the same when I recently test drove my work mate's 630i, but the ride quality and seats were great. A nice comfy cruiser for sure.

Damn the rattles that the dealer fixed are now back, so the fixes were good only for a few months. Now that it’s out of the main3 year warranty, I know that these won’t be covered by the extended but could I argue that they should have some sort warranty on the fixes so could/would they look at them again?

Exhaust flap rattles? If so there are plenty of people who have gone back and gotten work done when the noises have returned on babybmw!

What are peoples opinions on getting rid of runflats?

I have a 430d with Goodyear Eagle F1 runflats - I replaced one 2 months ago due to hitting a pothole and having a bulge in the sidewall. Now it's got a split in the sidewall again  Checked the other tires and 2 more have splits in them!

I remember reading that these particular runflats are prone to doing this - is this something others have heard of?

So i'm a bit nervous about replacing all 4 and having the same happen again so if go with something else what would people recommend? Also are there any warranty concerns I need to be aware of?

I don't think there is a particular issue with the Eagle F1, the Excellence can be a nuisance though.

The Runflat thing is very car/tyre dependent. I used to always get rid of them ASAP but I've currently got Assymetric 3 RFT's and they are fine.

Has anyone else noticed how many BMW's seem to have those awful M colour clip on Ebay grille addons fitted? They look crap enough on an M car or an M Sport model but they are popping up on regular SE's too. How can anyone think it looks good?!

It's the Assymetric 2 that I have on mine.
I know potholes have been bad recently but to need 3 tires since March (when I picked it up) seems too much. Never had any problems with the Bridgestone runflats on my previous car which I did 20k+ miles on.

Any recommendations for the following sizes:
Front: 225/40/19 Y89
Rear: 255/35/19 Y92

Also, will it cause me any problems with the warranty?

I switched from bridgestone 19" runflats on my F31 to Michelin PS4's and they are a lot better. Ride is better (especially over potholes) but also the handling feels a lot more confidence-inspiring.

Managed to sell my part-worn runflats for a reasonable amount on ebay too which helped ease the ££ pain.

Yes-it's disgusting! I have seen them on some really old badly kept cars. I even saw some in Munich which shows that some Germans can have just as bad taste as a British chav.

Generally found on E92 320ds around here
Although audi and mercedes owners seem to be rolling out the S badges and AMG badges a fair amount too

A workmate has fitted some to his 66 plate f10 and even had the audacity to suggest I got some for my e38!

I told him they ruin the look of an otherwise lovely motor (debadged 520d M Sport) he seems under the impression it’s “current M Sport styling” and won’t have it that it’s nothing to do with the factory.
