Does it have to be diesel though? I would have thought that the potential cost savings of a 530d are outweighed by the potential costs associated with turbos, egrs, dpfs, etc. Depends on what sort of mileage you're doing of course.

Well it was 20k a year but I’ll only be doing 12k now as I’ve had the opportunity to work elsewhere.

So yes a diesel doesn’t really make sense at that mileage now. Did look for a 530i but hardly any about with the sort of spec I wanted. So I’ve given up. Only reason for looking at these were for the mileage I would have been doing. Haven’t really gelled with the focus st I bought :-/

Yeah.... Valve stem seals are on their way out. See the little puff of smoke on the first rev? Oh well. I figured I'd need to do it at some point. So the question is, how long before it's undrivable? And, do I buy the tool (£800) and attempt the work myself or do I eat the £2000 cost to have an indy do it for me?

there are places in the midlands and Yorkshire that do it for about 1k with the tool and upto 1500 for it to be stripped and done but I imagine they might not be worth it to you because of the distance. ive got the links saved somewhere so if needed ill find them out. had them saved as I thought mine might need doing but didn't in the end

Looking to move it on already?
AFAIK yes, but I'm sure someone else will be along shortly to give you a definite answer.

Possibly yes. I think I can probably sell it without a loss and spend a bit more and get an Audi S3. I got a good deal and it has 11 months AUC left.

Some of the things that I thought would be OK as a family car are more of a pain than I thought. Want a hatch back and 5 doors.

Get an 8P RS3. You know you want to :p

Yes.

I did the same thing when I too bought a 3 series by mistake :D

Don't downgrade to an Audi A3 though.

That's good know, what's the actual process to do it?

The S3 I don't consider it a downgrade, I may also look at the LCI M135i.

There is no process, the warranty is attached to the car.

An A3 is a downgrade, it's from the class below after all.

Sounds like a 428i GC would have been ideal.

How would BMW know to send the insured warranty quote to the new driver when AUC comes to an end?

The GC would fit the requirements but my wife also doesn't like the low roof - she says it makes the car feel very closed in. Also full leather is proving to be a pain in this heat even with the AC on max. The budget also doesn't give much to pick from.

I just contacted bmw to tell them I now owned the car, getting connected drive over to my account was a bit more troublesome and involved sending them copies of some docs.

The S3 isn't a significant downgrade from the 4 Series though, is it? I'd argue the interior is nicer than the 4. Sure, the A3 is a competitor to the 1 Series, but the F3x interior is hardly the epitome of quality.

Been driving around in the perfect weather in the 240i. Because its the first RWD car I've driven I haven't driven it hard in Sport+ without first building complete confidence in the behaviour of the car.

I have in Sport and the rear does move, however, I naturally try and catch it straight away. How do you know if you've done it and not the electronics?

Any of you fanatics going to the BMW show at santa pod next week?

I find myself driving with extra caution anyway with a RWD car, when exiting roundabouts etc.

Depending on your interests etc. maybe worth doing a skid pan day to learn some advanced car control. This would be beneficial for any type of car or driver really so I plan on doing one myself too.

Is it common for the emblem part of the BMW badge to fall off? The one on the front of my Z4 has gone leaving the silver holder and glue residue, must have been really hot this week for it to melt the glue off haha.
