BMW and M Power Owners

So you'd be done about £1400 ish? Assuming the Civic was worth £2k.
TBH I'd take it. You could be hanging around for months waiting for the right buyer. All the while the car is depreciating.

^ Fair point.

How long have you had it? What would £1400 have paid for over the same period of time? That's one way to look at things. Even in the cheapest most horrible hire car you're looking at £100-150 a week in costs.

I think I gave up £400 or so over 2 months in a 340i. I'd have liked to break even but it was a route out of a car I wasn't endeared by and had it been on £0 down PCP or something I'd have paid over double for two months use of a car like that.

Maybe its man maths :)

How dangerous is it to update the iDrive system? I've had a look online and it seems to be just a usb into the car and then it does the rest for you.....I'm always dubious though.

I put my vin number into the site and it says there is a download for me.

iDrive should be OK, it's when you get into updating the whole vehicle firmware that problems can crop up, as sometimes latest software versions are incompatible with older hardware modules, so they need to be replaced in order for the firmware update to be successful.

You can only "update" the iDrive with relevant BMW software. If you are talking simply updating the iDrive from the BMW Connected Portal, that is all this is, nothing more. You download the update, and install it

I thought so, I cannot see any for sale with it.
There are a few - type adaptive into the search option thingy on auto trader

Sadly it is. Not sure about must have though, I've not had mine for long but I'm pretty happy with suspension, was worried it would be very harsh but its less harsh than my MPS and car is well setup for b road blasting!
I've never driven one but every review I watched marked it as a must have. There is 1 youtube guy "Joe Achilles" who has had 2 M135i and now M140i and from his first to second he went from none adaptive to adaptive and iirc he said something along the lines of "if you drive a car without you'll think it's fine, then if you get into one with it is so much better you will think those without are not nearly as good" or something like that

The stock setup is as you said probably good enough though!

I added adaptive to my M135i after driving an M235i without it, and another 1 series with it. I do quite a lot of miles, and personally I found the standard suspension a bit stiffer than I would have liked, but it didn't make the front end any better or the back end less floaty so I added it to my spec.

For me it was a "must have", and it does make a very noticeable improvement to comfort but I can see why people wouldn't choose to pay the extra, especially if you don't do a lot of miles.

I would like it but there's no M140i under 25k with it - 5 door, auto.

Is it worth spending the extra on the 140i over the 135i?!

I think I've decided Orange is the colour for me.

The 140i is obviously better but not hugely better, just a bit more power. A facelift 135i is fine.

I'm really not sure how this is going to work for you though as there isn't much about a 1 Series that is better than a 4 Series. The interior is very similar, the boot is quite a lot smaller, all it has going for it is the more practical opening of the hatch. If you hated a 428i so much you were happy to throw thousands in the bin by getting rid of it after just 4 weeks I can't see how a 1 Series is going to become the love of your life.

I really liked the 428i, but I want something a bit more special in terms of driving experience and engine. The braking needs to be better, because the 428i doesn't give me confidence. I think I started to understand these things better as I used the 428i more.

The boot opening on the 4 series is a bit shallow which isn't good for putting buggies in, ours would only fit between the recesses behind the lights. It fits, but in reality it's rubbish.

I'm not saying the M140i is the definite next car, as I need to drive it and use the experience I have from my botched 428i purchase to not make the same mistakes.

It's difficult trying to find a car that strikes the balance between performance/fun and doing the family duties.
