BMW and M Power Owners

Try out a racing wheel for the PC, that'll show you what they're like. In the real world, they'll never really get any use unless you're on a track. Manual control can be selected and done with the shifter.

I have used them on a logitech G20, thought it was ok. But I hardly ever used the wheel let alone the paddles. Could be a sign.

I'm starting dialysis soon (find out when on Monday) and it will be done in my left arm. They operated to join some veins together, so now it aches, and that's only gonna get worse after 4 hours of dialysis 3 times a week.

Had my 330d for a month now and have tried the paddles once, with a great auto box there is no need for them, maybe I’m lazy but I very rarely come out of auto.

Caught speeding at the back end of last year (52 in a 40 road reduced to 30 for roadworks :( ) and then last week 69 on 50 limited dual carriageway :( 6 Points from first offence, expecting a minimum of 3 from this second one. I think the 340i is going to have to go after the trip to the Nurburgring in September. I can't justify £600 a month(including insurance) on a car that I can't enjoy :( Despite the fact I ******* adore that car. Not looking for advice; venting :p

**** my life :(

Here's some advice anyway - don't get rid of the car, instead use Waze/similar camera locations app whenever you drive and keep an eye out for cameras/police. Plenty of people on here have much faster cars and still manage to keep hold of their licence, just have to be careful and learn the types of places where police like to do enforcement. I'd have lost my licence multiple times if it hadn't been for Waze.

I did not know Waze did this..Is that the standard version or is there some kind of premium app for this? Ans how reliable is it? Of course it's an option to keep the car and just drive very carefully everywhere but it'd kinda suck having to do that :(

Yeah, you have a much more intelligent gearbox than me. However, I think I would still use paddles even if I had that 'box just to hear the V8 sing.

Yup completely free, definitely worth having!

I used the paddles in the M5 almost constantly, but only because I used to prefer to shift it up before the redline, or down to make it blip. because M5.

If I had a stinky, pointless diesel, I'd be less inclined to want to use something reserved for sports cars

I read that holding the left paddle when flooring the gas pedal stops or reduces the initial delay when the car drops a gear for overtaking.

Having tried it I guess it works but you do have to remember to shift up with the right or you just revs the nuts off it.

Other than that, never use the paddles.

Standard app - I’ve never seen a fixed camera location that it’s missed, and people report police / camera vans on it too. I’ve used it in various countries and every time it’s been great. It also gives you warnings for accidents / potholes / vehicles stopped in the road etc. I run it every time I drive anywhere, even if I know the way.

I thought I would use them but the reality is that the ZF8 is just always better than me so I let it get on with it.
Even with that gearbox, I use them a lot if I'm out for an "enthusiastic drive". If I leave it in Auto it's in too high of a gear when coming out of corners so there's a slight delay when putting the power down and it drops down again. I downshift into the corners knowing what gear I'll need to be in and then it's a smooth exit from the corner.

If you're just driving day-to-day though, there's no real point to them. The constant gear changing you'd be doing in an 8-speed would quickly become tedious, it might be a bit better in a 6 or 7 speed.
