BMW and M Power Owners

So this would quite not down on cold start? My 335i though not in the same league is quite loud on cold start but it’s never bothered me

a) 335i turbos soak up a lot of noise
b) 335i is not as loud as M3 anyway
c) 2 pipe mod on M3 makes it MUCH louder than normal

looking at e46 330ci's for under 2.5k at the moment, hopefully I can find a diamond in the rough rather than a lemon, im guessing these will just keep going up in value from here on?

Yeah, Along with the 2 pipe mod its a bit loud at 6am :o
I recently got an e92 M3, and while it is quite quiet, i think if i do get the pipe mod done its the cold start bit that will **** off the neighbours, and i'd quite like to keep a warranty on it so i don't want to code it out (not sure if the pipe mod would affect that anyway).

Has anyone who has an m3 on hp/pcp been successful in getting a service pack included?
I’m guessing it needs a couple services per year?

Been looking at m3’s for a while now but still looking for the right one before I go for it. 2014+, saloon in either white or gold, right spec!

It doesn't need a couple of services per year.

There is no service pack for a used M3 that's has its first service that is worth pushing for imho.

I think I have been given false information, just in general discussion it came up that it might need serviced every 4000-6000 miles. So this is not the case? Will it just come under the standard bmw yearly service then? This would be my first “high performance” car so really looking into it,cars before are A4,5 series,XE,mercML.

Seen a nice one with 17000 miles but it wasn’t main dealer which I’d rather stick to after past experiences

I usually do about 10k per year

Oh boy! Where to begin... :p

Well, the E46 330d I picked up with moon miles was in the garage for some TLC this week.
A full 7 hour day with both me and a mechanically minded friend, on proper ramps so the car was overhead - gave us time to get most of the important issues dealt with.

First up, knocking on acceleration - turned out to be a rather dead propshaft bearing:

This looks original, so it's done well to get to almost 280,000 miles.

Next up, one of the front arms had play in an outer ball joint - I only noticed when I knocked the arm with the car in the air some days previous.
Looks original, too!

The car had absolutely horrific vibration on braking, so off with the discs and on with some fresh metal:

Finally, one of the main reasons I waited until I had a lift to hand.
I've learned a lot about the GM 5L40E gearbox - and I've even got a spare in the shed I'm fully rebuilding in my spare time.
For now, I'd like this one to last a little longer - so I set about changing all of the solenoids (I sell them, so plenty to hand) and the filter, gasket, ATF etc.
ATF is blimmin awful stuff, and by the end of the day I was covered from head to toe.
Sneaky pic of the valve body, where the magic gubbins are kept:

All in all, a great day. The torque converter lockup solenoid must have been faulty as suspected, as I had no lockup - now it works beautifully, sitting at a gracefully low RPM at motorway speeds and not changing RPM with gradient.

I've also fitted Bluetooth to the car (a pain with the OE 16:9 Nav system combined with HK) but all working OK.
The HK system in these cars is absolutely fantastic for a standard set-up!

Now driving absolutely spot on, in a straight line and with all functions working as expected. Fantastic. :)

How much do BMW charge to retrofit some flappy paddles to a F30? I've seen an amazing 335i that is perfect except doesn't have the paddles. Not a deal breaker but would be good to see if they could be added at a later date.

Just do it yourself?

They are fairly pointless anyway. I rarely ever use mine.

Yeah I get that they are a bit gimmicky, I've never used them before and just kinda wanna see what they're like tbh.

Can they be fitted by a complete idiot? Only thing I've done to car a in 20 years is check oil and changed a tyre.

Try out a racing wheel for the PC, that'll show you what they're like. In the real world, they'll never really get any use unless you're on a track. Manual control can be selected and done with the shifter.

Caught speeding at the back end of last year (52 in a 40 road reduced to 30 for roadworks :( ) and then last week 69 on 50 limited dual carriageway :( 6 Points from first offence, expecting a minimum of 3 from this second one. I think the 340i is going to have to go after the trip to the Nurburgring in September. I can't justify £600 a month(including insurance) on a car that I can't enjoy :( Despite the fact I ******* adore that car. Not looking for advice; venting :p

**** my life :(
