Probably all true, but that's really just still paying a lot to get less. I may well regret it but planning to keep the car probably another 2 years and then sell and just doesn't seem worth it.I thought £2.6k was the base rate - so if you factor in the renewal discount (you get a code in the post) and have max excess with no roadside cover, it may be quite a bit less. I know that isn't ideal but it at least means if anything expensive breaks, you'll be fully covered.
Being anchored to the £2.6k on the M850i, that seems like a great deal to meBmw want £1030 for a years comprehensive warranty for the 440i I'm buying. Not sure if I should take them up on it. Or wait 6 months till the period of "protection" a dealer purchase offers and then buy it...

It's cheaper when you either renew an existing insured warranty policy, or renew an expiring manufacturer's or AUC warranty.Bmw want £1030 for a years comprehensive warranty for the 440i I'm buying. The sweet spot is if you have an M car. I think they're all the same rate. So you pay the same for an M2 as you would an M5 - making the latter look decent value.

I don't think this is the case. The M5 is considerably more. I think it's probably set at a certain percentage above the normal car, and the 5 Series is about 100% more expensive per year than a 2 Series.
The 5 series warranty cost was always priced at the highest I'd be prepared to pay - any more and I'd seriously question its value. In the end, it was the biggest waste of money ever as the car never went wrong and I didn't claim once![]()
Sounds like BMW know something we don't!I've just done a quick comparison between a 2019 M2 and M5 (randomly picked off Autotrader) and they are both £1982.00 per year each - at 25k miles. £100 excess.
Over 60k miles that goes up to £4778.00.![]()

FWIW I haven't bothered with the warranty on my 2015 428i GC and so far, touch wood, nothing beyond tyres, servicing and consumables has been needed.
Oh? Did I miss a post? Details!Yes, I've sold the 530d and now have an M340i![]()

Same spec as me then, would've liked the sunroof but wasn't available on the stock cars at the time. Presume you went with a saloon? It's a 2021 M340i in Portimao Blue with Comfort, Technology and Visibility packages. Took ages to find - I've been looking since about January - but it's so difficult to find them with options packs but without the pack that adds the black wheels etc
I've wanted one for a while now - kept the 530d a bit longer than I expected in the end, but after 7 years (9 if you count the very similar 530d I had before it!) it was time for something new. The 530d was great, it was also surprisingly reliable - not a single thing went wrong with it (other than a battery in the first year or so) in 7 years of ownership. A fantastic car.
Perhaps the biggest surprise with the M340i so far is that I am averaging almost the same fuel economy as I did with the 530d![]()
