BMW and M Power Owners

styling - does look like the grill problem is being remedied with neue klasse hommage back to the 2000t with shark/over-bite look.
if they are building this in China and it can be economic for EU/USA import despite the battery tarifs etc. must show how cheap labour, real battery prices are, or chinese market size

doesn't have the humor of the clive owen/richie bmw videos, but nice to see they are still making them

I helped a friend pull an old e34 1991 150k mile 525i out of a garage today after 18 years sitting in there, belonged to a family member, house now up for sale and therefore the car needed removing from the garage….

Much to our surprise, after a quick check of fluids etc and a change of battery, it started on the second turn of the key and then ran beautifully, no tapping, knocking, missing nothing, just a smooth idle, it reluctantly went into gear (both drive and reverse) the selector seems very stiff but, it’s running - remarkably! It drove out of the garage under its own power, and back in after its brief wash, quite astonishing tbh especially when I first saw it I assumed it was effectively scrap!

It will probably be sold as is as we already have a few interested parties.

After a quick wash, it’s come up remarkably well.

It’s most likely going to be sold as is, undecided fully yet, but had a lot of interest, still can’t quite believe how it started and ran so well after so long!

They don’t make them like they used to! :D

That is so cool.
Absolutely, it was so nice to just sit in it tbh, it had stood up to the years very well, no cracks on the dashboard, as I say, everything still worked, I’m still blown away by how smooth and rattle free the engine was, never mind the fact it started!!

A little surface rust here & there, the front wings being the worst, remarkably the rear arches are pristine, no rust or bubbling whatsoever!

The reality will be revealed once it’s up on a workshop ramp that said, I jacked it up and had a good look underneath, bar a rusty looking exhaust system, the underside was on the face of it very clean and rust free.

@Scania

Can the bonnet be rejuvenated or does it need a respray.
Definitely a re spray we think, there’s considerable “orange peel” so it looks like it’s had paint there - badly - at some point, the rest of it though, especially given it had just a snow foam and rinse off, is remarkable given the layers of crud that it was buried under, ironically, I suspect the very same crud had actually protected the paintwork which has come up far better than you’d expect…

It turns out the car was parked in said garage fully functional - thankfully with the handbrake off! - with no issues, it was replaced by an e36 and a 4x4 apparently and simply left where it was for nearly two decades.

No mould inside, nothing wet, even after a good jet washing the inside was still dry, quite astonishing tbh!

Someone on YouTube would rip your arm off for this - purely for the videos

nice - proper car - traditional environmentally friendly paints that last.
had had a clearcoat issue on the bonnet of a similarly aged bmw, at the time, chose a cheaper replacement salvage bonnet rather than a respray,
didn't know whether the head gasket problem & coolant over-pressurization/escape contributed to it;
that has had some coolant projection onto bonnet insulation.

on the bmw ICE topic - noted that WAZE is being incorporated in Android Automotive - the google gravity field gets stronger

Yes, I noticed the staining on the bonnet insulation, it's certainly had some coolant issues in the past although as it stood the coolant was at the correct level and a nice deep green colour (assuming it should be green of course!) it was telling us on the dashboard that the coolant was low even though it wasn't, and it didn't overheat once up to temperature...

It's bound to have a few issues lurking, I'm sure, I'm just happy it started and ran so well, quite a result for what I was expecting to be an effectively dead car needing serious resurrection!

Update on my GPS issue.
Tried to refresh the ATM unit which handles the comms Inc GPS.

Only to find it missing from the car. Dealer took it out to look at it... beaxuse it wasn't working and forgot to put it back.

They're posting it to me next week.

DOH

Who did you buy this thing from?! Bodgit and Scarper?

Dealer had all the right words and marketing to make it seem like they weren't cowboys. Not impressed so far but nothing substantial enough to take the car back (yet).

I've had to order a car cover because the trees are making an absolute mess over my poor m140i! I thought once we get past the pollen stage it would be ok but they're now dropping that sticky crap everywhere! It will be annoying covering and uncovering it all the time but it's probably worth it. Hopefully it will protect from the deadly acorns in autumn that cause little dents everywhere too

Just trim the tree back?
