BMW and M Power Owners

I gotta say, I think you’re crazy to take a 12 year old car to a main dealer for servicing but each to their own. I’ve been taking my 2015 4 series to my local mechanic! Brake fluid change recently, £49 including fluid.
I just haven't found a mechanic I trust to be honest.. My local sytner seem decent enough and accommodating, and sorted any issues I had with the car without much fuss. Even replaced my inner roof liner free of charge (not a warranty item) due to how long it took to figure out an engine issue (during which they change loads of parts, including the high pressure fuel pump).

I've just picked up a VLinker OBD adapter and Bimmerlink and have done some scans on my 2013 F20 M135i. I know from the pile of invoices I got when I bought the car last August, that it had a new battery fitted in February 2022. Checking in Bimmerlink I can see that the new battery was never registered. Is it too late to register it now, in order to reset the charging profile? The car has covered approximately 6000 miles since the battery was replaced.

it's an MMI box ? - did they also find out why the gps had issues

That's the box.

No clue about the GPS at this point in time.

I plan to flash the Screen back to standard via esys.
I hope that will solve the issue. If not, then I'll have to check the comms box located in.the rear.

Honestly I wouldn't bother. The internal nav is garbage - so you'll only ever use Waze anyway.

I've used my satnav a few times to take me to places I'm not familiar with and it's worked really well. It's got a nice, high res screen too, especially for a 8 year old car. It could do with an update though. Maybe this Black Friday.

While we are discussing phone connectivity/satnavs- Has anyone had issues in the last week or two with Apple CarPlay refusing to connect to the car?

In my M340i G21, last week it dropped connection as I was out driving and now refuses to connect back up. I've tried deleting the phone from the car and 'forgetting' the car itself in the iOS settings. Also tried signing out of my BMW driver profile in iDrive then signing back in and setting up CarPlay again, but still no luck.

Finally tried a reset of the iDrive but again, refuses to connect.

Phone will connect via Bluetooth to iDrive and work via that, but if you try using CarPlay instead, it doesn't want to know.

Quite a few folk on some G20/G21 owners groups saying the same is happening to them and a few allege it's been an iOS update which has caused it, but no solutions appear to be forthcoming as yet.

Any ideas?

iOS 16.5 came out yesterday which says it has CarPlay fixes in it, so definitely worth installing that and trying to reconnect.

If GPS module is out, you'd loose other newer predictive, car reading the road, capabilities - auto gearbox selection at junctions/roundabouts (headlights on bends ?).

If you aren't using the in-built Satnav then if fitted, I believe a lot of those features are unavailable. I imagine headlights on bends is because the lights are connected to the steering rack.

Excellent, didn't realise there was an update available. I had already rolled back the rapid response security 16.4.1 (A) patch as that seemed to be the culprit according to certain quarters. Have updated my iPhone with 16.5 and will pop out to the garage to see if its done the trick. Cheers for the 'heads up' :)
