BMW and M Power Owners

Autoglym screen wash is great and the stops the wipers smearing. I've used it for over ten years on all our cars. The screen washes to avoid are the ones with silicon in them like rain X as that glogs together int he reservoir.

I stopped using eurocarparts screen wash - I think the issue in BMW's and other cars is ethyl-glycol screen washes versus methanol based -
to wit. bought some polargard methanol based during last freeze

(had to fix a washer problem today 2000's 3 series - during freeze the -15C eurocarparts concentrate decided to breakdown with a level of slime on the surface of washer bottle,
got that snot out with a paint brush, then had to lever out and disconnect both jets for pump to blow out the slime in the jet piping, and syringe both jets )

Can someone offer some advice on a spare key fob? I have a BMW 520d (F10) and I need a spare key. I've heard the main dealer will be very expensive so looking at other options. Is it best to buy a fob from eBay and use a mobile key programming company to come and programme it?

Why don't you get a quote from a dealer first before fobbing them off and looking at alternatives?

Pixels Fixed coded me an additional genuine BMW F10 key for my M5 after one of mine got damaged. Very reasonable prices for very good service!

Anyone seeing a sharp uplift in dealer service pricing recently? An oil service with all the filters on my 5 series is now £571, vehicle check is £126. Even the oil change and microfilter is £358. Paid just over £200 for the latter at the beginning of the year.

I noticed recently that one particular dealer group has prices that are considerably higher than all the others, regardless of where they are in the country. I think this is probably the dealer you've selected...

I wonder if this is an error as generally all the others are pretty much the same price. In some cases a dealer in Wales was charging far more than one in central London based on the online quote.

Try again and see what other local dealers are quoting.

Berry Group still seem ok, not noticing much increases

Does the group start with S and end with ytner?

I've tried 3 different dealer groups in the north west; Lloyd, Bowker and Williams, all are coming out similar.. at least from the BMW service website.

Considering moving back to bmw. Thinking m340i. Can anyone summaries wtf the packs are? Basically I want some form of adaptive led headlights, hud and adaptive suspension. Any packs in particular that I need for these?

Adaptive LED headlights and Adaptive suspension are standard on the M340i. The head up display is part of the Technology pack.

Though it will depend on exactly what sort of adaptive function you want - if you want headlights with the automatic high beam which can split the high beam around traffic this is only available on cars with the Visibility Package, which adds laser lights as well.

The Adaptive LED headlights will turn when you turn the steering wheel and can have a high beam assistant which simply switches the high beam on or off.

Other packages are as follows:

Premium Pack (Only available on cars produced before around November 2020): Electric memory seats, sunroof, parking assistant plus (With cameras)
Comfort Pack: Comfort Access, Automatic tailgate, heated steering wheel, extra storage
Comfort Plus Pack: Comfort Pack with electric memory seats added. Only available on 2021 onwards cars built after November 2020.
Technology Pack: Head up Display, upgraded stereo, wireless charging*
Technology Plus Pack: Technology Pack with added Driver Assistant Professional (Adaptive cruise, blind spot monitor etc) and Parking Assistant Plus. 2021 onwards.
Visibility Pack: Laser lights and better automatic high beam system
Shadowline Plus Pack: If the standard M340i with it's grey mirrors, nice wheels and other subtle differences to the rest of the range is not for you, this package will make it look like a 150k mile 320d instead. Black wheels black grille, black mirror, all M340i specific parts painted black.
M Technology Pack: Larger 374mm front brakes and an additional oil cooler.

*This is removed from most cars made after mid 2021 due to parts shortages.

Laser doesn't sound essential to me then, just a nice to have.
Anything else significant you can recommend as good options? Or anything that's a complete waste of time?
Are folding mirrors and electric seats still options or are they standard?

I don't think I've seen the laser functionality ever work on mine (Though I've not owned it through winter yet) but the better high beam assistant is absolutely excellent and something I did not want to be without. The daytime running lights also look much nicer as well, so for me the Visibility Package was on my essentials list. It does make it more difficult to find a car though as most of them don't have it.

I set a minimum specification when searching of Comfort, Visibility and Technology Pack and ended up with exactly that. Having now had the car almost 3 months, the Comfort pack I could happily do without. Comfort Access just isn't that useful and a heated steering wheel, whilst nice to have, isn't essential. However, the head up display, better stereo and the lights discussed above were important to me.

It is really quite difficult to find a car with a high specification and more difficult again if you don't want all the black trim and the black wheels.

Folding mirrors are standard. Electric seats require either the Premium Package (Cars older than November 2020) or Comfort Plus Package (Cars newer than November 2020). This was a compromise I had to make - I was disappointed because I don't think manually operated seats have any place in a car of this price or type, but you have to compromise somewhere with used cars.

Thanks, info is really useful.

Happy days as my airco has been repaired. Much needed since it's been 30c at work (no AC here) and 30c outside too for the last couple of weeks.
Less happy is discovering this morning that someone has left a nice white scratch on my rear wheel arch  Not deep so hoping it'll polish out.

My M340i may be up for sale around October/November (or thereabouts), am pondering the pros and cons of the p/ex option vs trying to sell privately for more.

I imagine the dealership would prefer P/Ex as they then get to make money selling that car as well and it's less hassle than a private sale and it also means I drive in and drive out without having to make my own way there or get a lift.

Off to Warwick Rybrook BMW tomorrow.
MPPSK kit has arrived and will be installed :D

Looking forward to the Asbo exhaust noise and little extra performance.
I really did not want to go for a BM3 map, even though it would get 400 easily.. I worry that it will stress the drive train a little too much for long term use.
