BMW and M Power Owners

Is anybody Newcastle based who knows a trusted non main dealer to replace the gasket on my 3.0l Z4?

I've got a minor leak that sometimes drops oil on the down pipe and CAT and smokes like something's terminal but, according to the BMW specialist near my parents house when I was visiting this weekend, it's a common fault on those engines and I'll be fine, the oil levels are still max on the computer and he gave me a bit of oil to top up if needed.

Which newcastle? If Tyne then DW autoworks are fantastic.

As mentioned above, Dean at DW Motorworks or Marc at Williams Performance

Posted this in the 'Show us your Motors!' thread, but thought I'd chuck it in here too..... Loving this hot weather! Missus asked me to pop out for a bottle of wine to have with dinner. Despite the village shop being a 5 minute drive away, I somehow ended up gone for 45 minutes, no idea how that happened :D

can you check the oil level yourself/manually - I knew mine had a valve cover leak (had the gasket&sealant sitting in the garage for several years to diy it) - topped up last week, it needed a litre to bring it back into the middle of the dip-stick - I was surprised it hadn't triggered a warning.

There's no dipstick so you have to rely on a test. Apparently it slightly raises the revs for a period when the engine is warm to measure how much residual oil is in the sump under known conditions, or something!

Finally managed to sort insurance after some quotes gave me palpitations! My renewal was £650, up from £400 which was, I thought, scandalous. Having looked around it wasn’t so bad actually but eventually found a quote of only £450 which I’ve just paid annually.

I popped down to check the car and the rear bumper paint.
I approved the colour, and now he's doing the front bumper.
This will remove all the stone chips and scuffs on the 440i along with fixing a poorly done bumper repair by the previous owner.

The first photo it looks miss coloured.. however, when I turned the car around and looked at it not in direct sunlight, it was a pretty much perfect match.

The sandy concrete was reflecting its colour onto the bumper as its angled down vs the rear qtr... i spent 30mins looking at various angles and lighting conditions. I'm happy with it.

He still needs to flat and polish it.

Trying being under 25 on an M2 :(
Only 6 months to go though! The only time I look forward to a birthday now.

Is it still recommended to only use bmw washer fluid on F series cars?
You need to be consistent with what you use. Make sure if you're changing then you get the reservoir as empty as possible. The tank is pretty big and lasts ages and a little bottle of concentrate is cheap enough. I got three for less than £10 and use one per tankful.

OK. I have just got the car 3 weeks ago so there should be plenty in there. I'll make sure it's empty before refilling it, we tend to get the halfords concentrate stuff for the other cars so I'll stick to that all the time

I heard a long time ago that BMWs can be picky with screenwash leading to the reservoir and pipework gunking up
Ahhh right. Good to know cheers. I use that yellow Prestone stuff. Got two big 5l bottles to get through. :)
