BMW and M Power Owners

Same, only time it’s not worked is when I go through the Hindhead tunnel on the A3 and it switches over to FM…but then back to DAB once we exit the tunnel. Otherwise it works fine!
The station I listen to is DAB and AM only so there's no switching, that may be part of the issue as I notice straight away at signal loss

Not sure I would want to make an already targeted car more steal-able
are relay attacks still a thing, even if your keys go to sleep
( apps for car control via phones probably present new opportunities, I guess you can summon teslas, and, that's not using the unique NFC chip you use for shop purchases. )

Lovely! The B58 is a magnificent engine too.

Fab spec as well

Can't wait for pictures :D
What are you waiting for? Pics man!

Thanks! Pics:

If anyone has any doubt about what BMW see when your car goes in, when it comes to it being mapped/coded etc, the latest Mat Armstrong M5 video on YouTube clarifies it somewhat.

Yep, they confirmed that even if you return to the default map before taking it to BMW, they can still see it has had a map previously

It's £2.6k :) Going to be putting something aside every month instead. It's a bit of a gamble so want to reduce the risk as much as I can by making sure all good before the AUC warranty expires.
I got my insured warranty offer letter through today coming to end of AUC warranty. 2019 M850i with 34k miles.
Comprehensive with roadside assistance is £2400 with no excess or £1400 with a £250 excess. The price anchoring to £2600 makes it feel like £1400 is actually an OK deal and I'm tempted. What would Motors do?

Go with the excess option. If you do have to claim, £250 is likely to be only a very small amount of the total cost.

Still a ridiculous figure though.

The zero excess option is always very expensive, how much is £100?

Still can't believe how much the 8 series warranty is compared to even a 5 series. The engines etc are all the same?

It can be removed (S0777). Plenty on Services to do so.
Source?

Are the people doing the coding/mapping saying it can be removed and the dealer cannot see it was ever done? As that doesn't surprise me, they are the people who are making money from doing the coding.

Or has a BMW tech or ex tech confirmed that once removed it cannot be seen?

The master tech at my dealer showed me what happens, as soon as it's plugged in to their system, it flashes up and they have to acknowledge it. Even if it's been previously coded or mapped, it still flags and once flagged it remains on the BMW system.

Just because BMW can see it, doesn't mean they're going to tell you they can see it. But it will be logged, and relied upon in the event of any warranty claim.

If there's a coder out there who can give me a GTS flash, and guarantee that BMW cannot see it, and agrees to pay for a new engine/gearbox in the event that BMW do see it, let me know as I have money waiting. But I highly doubt such a coder exists, as they won't want to take that risk.

£1767 compared to £1398 for the £250 excess option.

I think I'll go for comprehensive with £250 excess. I'd been planning to put some money away every year and hope for the best, but having the warranty will reduce anxiety levels even if it is expensive.

Mighty jealous!

What an absolutely lovely looking motor

What are your initial impressions?

Thanks - impressions are very good. It feels a bit like a 7 Series mixed with an M4 (I say that as I've had both).

It shrinks around you and feels like quite a focused sports car, but when cruising it's very refined like a GT. It does both things very well.

To me, it feels like it's producing a bit more than the quoted BHP figures, as is often the case with the B58.

In terms of general refinement it's not unlike the 7 Series, with the exception of the suspension - it's firmer but far from uncomfortable, but the driving experience more than makes up for it. I think the 8 didn't have runflats as standard, but this one has had them optioned.

I'm still working out exactly how all of the tech on it works, it's unusual to have quite this much stuff! The B&W sound system is exceptional, though I'm not sure I would pay thousands for it over the already very good standard Harman Kardon. The Laserlights are interesting, my understanding is the beam should intensify over 37mph in more rural areas, can't say it's all that noticeable, but I've only been out in it a couple of times in the dark so far. Driving Assistant Pro is nice but very much geared towards the motorway.
