BMW and M Power Owners

£1767 compared to £1398 for the £250 excess option.

I think I'll go for comprehensive with £250 excess. I'd been planning to put some money away every year and hope for the best, but having the warranty will reduce anxiety levels even if it is expensive.
Pfft. You just need to grow up a bit/become a sad act like me; then every journey where something doesnt break is like a micro-lottery win :D

I'm still working out exactly how all of the tech on it works, it's unusual to have quite this much stuff! The B&W sound system is exceptional, though I'm not sure I would pay thousands for it over the already very good standard Harman Kardon. The Laserlights are interesting, my understanding is the beam should intensify over 37mph in more rural areas, can't say it's all that noticeable, but I've only been out in it a couple of times in the dark so far. Driving Assistant Pro is nice but very much geared towards the motorway.
I have an M850i with tech, premium and visibility packs. Agree, the level of tech is great. I've found the Harmon Kardon very underwhelming and wish I had the B&W. The laser lights are very noticeable when they come on but they don't very much at this time of year.
Yours looks beautiful and great spec too, enjoy.

Thanks. You don't need B&W if you have the V8 engine to enjoy! :p

I would go for the warranty, even small things run into the £100's these days... my 7 Series had to have the active grille thing replaced at the front as it was jammed. That was £800. Front wheel bearings, £500.

Then the EGR Cooler leaked which meant my car was off the road for 50 days~ due to supply issues and they provided a new courtesy X5 45e within 48 hours. Total cost of that would have been astronomical I'm sure!

All that being said, in terms of replacement/courtesy cars, there may be a distinction between the 1 year AUC warranty and the extended warranty. So you may not quite get a like-for-like replacement if you're not under the 3 year manufacturer warranty or AUC warranty. However, I'm not totally clear on that.

Yep, they confirmed that even if you return to the default map before taking it to BMW, they can still see it has had a map previously
::) been on the go for years.
when i retired years ago this was a topic , most dealers have diagnostics that can read multitudes of info, the difference has been that technicians(aka mechanics) havent either been bothered or had the training to do it.
most vehicles have multiple ecus that record everything , some have up to 200 different units. i remember the old days when i had a boxster in and the owner jokingly said he always had the mileage kept down because you know cant be checked etc......
the look on his face was priceless a few weeks later when he told me porsche had told him they didnt want his car due to the discrepancies in the ecus.
at the time i had just read a write up in a trade magazine explaining the hours in each gear were logged in the gearbox ecus and then converted to miles covered and of course whoever corrected it never changed them.
dealers are more clued up now and are actively looking for faults to exclude warranties and bring prices down.

if you had had an AUC from bmw and subsequently extended the warranty presumably that represents a cast iron warranty - bmw implicitly verified there is nothing untoward in cars log

you called - yesterday Mercedes suffer blow in German legal fight over cheat software in diesels
In a key ruling, judges at Germany's highest civil court decided they would allow more drivers to collect compensation and said carmakers can now escape liability only if they can prove there was no way to know the software they used was illegal.
The top judges sent the individual cases back to the trial courts to have them determine if and how much compensation can be sought under these guidelines.
In cases of negligence, car owners cannot return the vehicle and get the full price back, they ruled. Instead, they can get 5 percent to 15 percent of the car price minus the monetary advantages they had, such as using the car over the period.

Source?

Are the people doing the coding/mapping saying it can be removed and the dealer cannot see it was ever done? As that doesn't surprise me, they are the people who are making money from doing the coding.

Or has a BMW tech or ex tech confirmed that once removed it cannot be seen?

The master tech at my dealer showed me what happens, as soon as it's plugged in to their system, it flashes up and they have to acknowledge it. Even if it's been previously coded or mapped, it still flags and once flagged it remains on the BMW system.

Just because BMW can see it, doesn't mean they're going to tell you they can see it. But it will be logged, and relied upon in the event of any warranty claim.

If there's a coder out there who can give me a GTS flash, and guarantee that BMW cannot see it, and agrees to pay for a new engine/gearbox in the event that BMW do see it, let me know as I have money waiting. But I highly doubt such a coder exists, as they won't want to take that risk.
My coder has said that he can remove the S0777 code. So when it's scanned, it doesn't show up. And that's an entire car wide module code delete.

Will see if what he says is true.

I've done a full U-turn of not liking the new M2 to seriously considering it.
Chris Harris seems to love it. Bit annoying having just got an F87 M2 to know the new car is a lot better, but it's also a hell of a lot more £ comparing list to list!
