I presume it will have some kind of built in SIM tray for mobile Internet access
No need to presume, BMW vehicles have had this for more than two decades.

That's interesting, so does that mean you can any SIM card?No need to presume, BMW vehicles have had this for more than two decades.

Oh, lol.No - unfortunately not.
Are you saying embedded SIM referring to esim technology or just stating the car has mobile connectivity (and using SIM as a synonym for mobile)Most cars have embedded sims these days for the emergency GPS location in the event of an accident. Other stuff as well, such as app access for locking/ unlocking etc.
My 440i has what I expect is an esim. It's in the ATM unit. Are you saying embedded SIM referring to esim technology or just stating the car has mobile connectivity (and using SIM as a synonym for mobile)

HmmmmmmmmmNo need to presume, BMW vehicles have had this for more than two decades.
Hey, what discount codes did you use when you rented fancy cars from Sixt in Germany?
I think only the very newest cars have a digital one - iDrive 7 and older has a physical one.
I've ripped the Old ATM unit apart. There is no physical Sim card, however there is an appropriate chip that can store an eSim details. So I presume older ones can?

What am I missing, why does it matter?
I was curious as to whether the multiple decade flex about BMW sim trays was 1) true, and 2) useful. Turns out it was neither as it is still IMSI locked to a provider. A shame really as cheap bolt-on data plans would be super useful. What am I missing, why does it matter?
I wonder who the network provider is that bmw use... or is it one of those multi network sim situationsI was curious as to whether the multiple decade flex about BMW sim trays was 1) true, and 2) useful. Yeah they are useless without being registered to BMW.I was curious as to whether the multiple decade flex about BMW sim trays was 1) true, and 2) useful. Turns out it was neither as it is still IMSI locked to a provider. A shame really as cheap bolt-on data plans would be super useful.
Vodafone probably. Their m2m setup uses international IMSIs so they can become localised without any faff at manufacturing line.I wonder who the network provider is that bmw use... or is it one of those multi network sim situations
I seem to recall Vodafone.I wonder who the network provider is that bmw use... or is it one of those multi network sim situations
Not being locked to BMW for WiFi in the car. What's the advantage to a bolt on data plan though? That's what I'm missing it seems.
