You know you want it.

You know I said:
* - I can think of one car that meets all 6 requirements in many ways, but I can't bring myself to see one just yet but may force myself on the weekend, (it has a potential image problem ;))

Bingo.. aleady discounted it.. I have a work colleague that had one (not in orange) and absoluely loved it, but the stereotype and image problem alone make it insurmountable..

The one car I was moderately intrigued over was a maserati grancabrio (was at the point of trying to get over prestige dealers extra markup and get something at normal prices), thought that ticked a lot of boxes, but disappointed on every level and looked too poncey as well, or just had this air of "look at me" that I didn't like, and the running costs are just too high.

Done.
I sat in one at the VW garage when dropping the EV off for a software update.. Just no.. only slow engines, looks too girly, limited toys, not too much room in the rear..

1. Must be an auto (that's easy to fulfill) - The V8V isn't a proper auto, but an old single plate clutch, so worth bearing this in mind and whether or not you'd be happy with this.
2. Must carry 4 adults + dog (easy in some cars) - The V8V coupe will be fine with 2 passengers and a small/medium dog, the Volante won't as it doesn't have a rear dog shelf. Remember that all Vantages are 2 seaters, not 2+2.
3. Ideally a convertible since I've had 5 now, and also had many sports bikes so like that open top motoring
4. With getting older, easy ingress/egress would be nice - The V8V is quite low, not always the easiest to get into - although not terrible for the sort of car. Tight car parks will be hard if you struggle.
5. Has some aspect that makes me like it, so a little unique, or fast, or quirky, or something. - The Aston will almost certainly tick this box.
6. I love tech, so love gadgets on the car.. - ... and almost certainly not tick this one.

If you're favouring comfort, you might be better off with a a DB9, although the V8V is pretty comfortable for what it is. Imo, you're not going to be happy with this list unless you compromise. For context I have a G31 540i touring and V8V Coupe - they are both very different cars.
Thanks, good advice.

Going OT a bit, might start another spec me a car thread, but sense it'll not go well ;)

Is it wrong.. to say that i kinda like it?
The guy in work who had a grey one almost persuaded me to go and have a look, he loved his, got a load of stick over it, but pointed me at reviews etc that all seemed to like it which is weird.. He found some clean examples in grey but I just couldn't bring myself to go and look.. what if I secretly liked it? I got enough stick over driving an M3 Convertible..

back in vw stable, apart from convertible aspect arteon type R estate has the better looks, exclusivity
double pan roof though.

( LCI uniquely has 5G too ? )
Looks good externally, but think I prefer the M340i..
It's funny because the 'touring' misses off quite a few requirements of mine, however just something about it appeals..

Indeed. I hate getting stuff like this done, as it's never as good as it originally was. Autoglass did one on my previous Octavia, which started delaminating after a couple of years and the vin was barely visible as the windscreen was badly aligned when installed.

I was just pleasantly surprised it actually got replaced today, it was the correct genuine BMW HUD windscreen I requested, and they'd not made an utter hash of it. Especially as it took around 6 weeks of chasing to get sorted.
Bump request on this - all been ok since replacement? I'm about to go through the same with my X3 M40i with HUD. I've specifically requested an OEM screen but Autoglass are quoting mid August as next availability

Query for all those with warranty experience
My car went in for mentioned DAB issues last Tuesday. On Wednesday the HK amp failed. Really loud cracking, popping etc. I have 2 videos of said issue, but they aren't fully clear. Eventually I lost all audio altogether, including seatbelt bongs, parking sensors etc.

I rang up the dealer who wanted me to wait 4 weeks with a car that is basically undriveable as it pops and cracks randomly really loudly (I mean like WW2 bombing loudly). Had a moan and they booked me in for this Thursday - I have been using another car.

I tried to get into the car to grab another better video of the noises, but today, everything is back to normal, all audio is working and no cracking it seems, which is very annoying as I bet they'll go "it was intereference, nothing to worry about", even though this is a well documented issue.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can drive them to repair or replace the amplifier alongside doing the technical service 'fix' BMW have issued (basically a plastic plate which stops the amp getting water on it), rather than fobbing me off? No doubt when I drop it off, the audio will be absolutely fine.

Crazy isn't it.. I have a list of requirements that can't be met*, so I have to choose which is the best compromise..
1. Must be an auto (that's easy to fulfill)
2. Must carry 4 adults + dog (easy in some cars)
3. Ideally a convertible since I've had 5 now, and also had many sports bikes so like that open top motoring
4. With getting older, easy ingress/egress would be nice
5. Has some aspect that makes me like it, so a little unique, or fast, or quirky, or something.
6. I love tech, so love gadgets on the car..

So, to get over req 3 of being a convertible, it needs to have something unique that appeals.. I've been in an M340i touring recently and loved it, and if going away from a convertible, the touring has many practicalities that make it worth considering for me.
The AMV8 roadster is another odd one.. I saw one at a prestige dealer when looking at a Maserati Gran Cabrio (didn't like it, terrible running costs!) that ticks requirement 5 so heavily, I have considered just throwing the other requirements out the window, however, I'm not quite at that stage yet..

It's bad to have to compromise, but also, good in that I can consider different things and not just do a tick box exercise, it might well get me out of my comfort zone..
Essentially I think I can see me slightly favouring comfort and tootling around over hardcore M cars and see how I get on..

M850i Convertible? Might fail on the dog carrying front mind.. eg

A bit more money gets an M8 Convertible too, AUC.

I do like the 8 Series, but want to keep things ~£30k ideally, but could be tempted to £40k ..
I literally did 16K Miles in 7 years in the E46 M3, so 2200 miles a year and whilst I could just go and splurge on something, it's exceedingly poor VFM to have a car largely sat on the drive doing nothing..

A few pictures of my X5 after is was detailed by https://www.downtothedetail.co.uk/. Really pleased with the result and well worth a look for anyone in Surrey. Dravit Grey is a fantastic colour and really pops in the sunlight.

xpost from "show us your motors", but thought not everyone ventures in there and more relevant here perhaps.

A few weeks ago I had https://www.unique-detail.co.uk undertake a 3 stage paint correction, and apply Titan Vulcan TX155 (which from my research is the best ceramic coating on the market). This was half paid for by the supplying dealer, as the paint work was not what it should be.....

The results are absolutely remarkable - not only have 98% of the blemishes gone to all but the most critical eye (ie with a torch), but the overall look of the car and the way the amazing "Aventurinrot II" (Aventurin Red II) individual colour pops, is remarkable. Oh, and it stays cleaner and is much easier to clean once it is dirty. All in all, incredible job!

That's so much nicer than **** grey

Back to sensible budgets (<£30k) and wanting reasonable running costs for my puny 2.5K Miles/year..

This Mineral Grey 440i with pretty much everyone conceivable option has just had it's price reduced to £26750

I've mentioned it before, but probably got lost in the noise, but the only downside I can see is it has Adaptive Suspension (since it has HUD/Surround View/Adaptive LED and most desirable options, that was inevitable)..
It would need the MPPSK, some nicer wheels and possibly an MPerformance styling kit added (or partially added) to make it look less frumpy?

Thoughts?
