BMW and M Power Owners

4wd is only available on the 20d and 35d iirc?

my 4 coupe and now 4 gran coupe has not thrown up any faults in the time i have owned them
'13 428i coupe - 2017-2021
'18 440i gc - 2021-present
No issues with my 2015 428i Gran Coupé in the 2 years and 3 months I've had it, but that doesn't mean it's been cheap motoring. I just got the gearbox fluid changed, that was £420 but it was due as the car was 8 years old and it'll now be fine for as long as I own the car and probably longer too. Back in February I paid £763 for four Michelin Pilot Sport 5's and there's been brake fluid and brake pads front and rear in there as well as two oil changes.

That reads like pretty cheap motoring to me! Consumables replaced, necessary services completed and fortunes not spent in the process...

I suppose thats true, nothing untoward or outside the correct maintenance. I still have this fear that something catastrophic is going to happen soon like an idrive unit or the cooling system will self destruct. Have been thinking about adding the warranty from January next year, just in case.

This is what we were planning on test driving -

£20k is our budget, with a little give for the perfect motor.
The 4 series are lovely cars, I have one myself but I can't help but agree with Fox, as nice as they are they're still based on a design from 2013. I'd be trying to squeeze into a G 3 series if I could.

Nice colour, perhaps slightly higher miles than expected.

Fancying an estate for the boot space/access. Our A4 was terrible for fitting things in the boot and the 3 series looks the same.
That's what led us down the A5 Sportback / 4 series Gran Coupe route.

Love my 4GC but I don't think i'd spend £20k on a 2019 420i when you could almost certainly get a 2017 car (or even earlier if you're not desperately bothered by the facelift changes) that'll be virtually identical for less money.

In your opinion.

What?

The 4 Series is a coupe version of the 3 Series. It's not really an opinion...

Traditionally, all versions of the 3 Series (Coupe, Convertible, Estate, Saloon etc) were called 3 Series but after Audi decided to use A5 as the name for the 2 door A4 BMW responded by renaming the coupe and convertible versions of the 3 Series as 4 Series instead. The fact you think it's a completely different car when it isn't probably helps explain the reason behind the marketing :D

It's the same car, the difference between a 3 Series Saloon and a 4 Series Coupe is exactly the same as the difference between the previous 3 Series Saloon and 3 Series Coupe.

The 4 Series is always a year or two after the 3 Series, which means a 2019 3 Series is an all new car and a 2019 4 Series is still the 2011 3 Series. There is now a new 4 Series to match the 3 Series but it didn't appear until late 2020 and is therefore far above the budget.

No.

3 != 4.

Stop bullying 4 owners with your logic and reasoning. Won't get you anywhere in life. Pfffft :p

I'm constantly looking at G 3/5 Series, M340i/540i Tourings, and i'm fearing temptation is going to get the best of me, the pair of them are such good looking cars, going to be a good while we'll see BMW come out with something good looking again.

New 5 series isn't pleasing to look at, maybe they do a decent job of it but looking at their recent designs I'm not convinced. It'll also weigh as much as a whale and it will be far too big for UK roads, the F90 is big as it is and the cars are getting bigger.

Looks better IRL, but I agree it is absolutely massive
