BMW and M Power Owners

Well I drove from my home (Letchworth, Herts) to work (Watford) Using the BMW satnav and I have to say I'm really impressed, very clear, zooms out at major junctions showing a good overview of the road layout ahead and direction/s

Only wish would be to have the estimated time of arrival on the HUD, not sure I can see if that is located or an option? But overall its great!

Just need to workout how to store some regular locations in, home, work, schools etc

If going down to South Mimms and across, I suggest resting your hand on the horn and hoping for the best.

Anyone know if an F Series NBT EVO screen can be replaced to be a touch screen varient?
I don't use the BMW nav because The iDrive wheel annoys me when selecting a destination. Would be nice to just touch it.

I don't mind the BMW Nav, It works pretty well, especially with the HUD.
Mine is a touch screen and a non Evo NBT system.

I cant use the touch functionality on the stock BMW interface, only the android interface.

Never managed to get mine to connect, it gets to the 'sending a message to the car' stage of registering in the app but the message never appears in the car :(

Pretty sure it can be

I had an F31 with business nav, and had an NBT system added with touchscreen.

Not sure if you’d need to replace the NBT system at all - can’t imagine you would. Likely to be a coding thing.

My response was at the person who I worked with, aka why would you commute from Watford to Farnborough every day :p
Haha! my bad, totally got the wrong end of the stick!!! sorry bud!
Watford is a pain to get to A1M = 31miles M1 = 31 miles I can train in but have to go into London and back out again! Like a said, luckily I’m only in a day here and there!

To be honest, I didn't think that was required to even connect the car to the app in the first place.

Receiving messages in the car requires a data connection. At various points it's been free for life I think, but you still need that to be active for it to work I think?

Is there a Messages menu option in the Connected Drive menu? If it's missing, then that's probably the issue.

There is a messages section, nothing appears in it after entering the VIN into MyBMW and i'm pretty sure it has a data connection one way or another because stuff like the weather and news apps all work.

I gave up after reading various threads online with similar problems going unresolved, the fact everything 'online' in the car seems to work anyway and it would pretty much only be the ability to send locations to the car and maybe check if it was locked that I was missing out on. That and the car being old enough that I think it's 3G and will presumably get disconnected soon anyway :p

I have not driven a C43 AMG but I have driven a C200 and I own an M340i, so hopefully my view is useful.

Firstly I don't think you can put the number of cylinders and displacement aside. The engine in the M340i is a huge part of what makes it so good and for me regardless of how good the rest of the car is, and as you'll see below I think it is really quite good, there is no place for a 2 litre 4 cylinder engine in a car of this type.

If you are looking at a 2023 M340i, then I think the C Class is the better looking car - I don't like what BMW have done with the facelift of the 3 Series. I think the 2019-2022 M340i is one of the best looking cars BMW have made for a long time and the 2022- version is a backward step from that. In this respect the C Class is clearly the winner, it is much nicer looking if you're considering a 2023 M340i. If you're not, then the M340i is as good.

The interior of the C Class is really nice but the user interface isn't as good as the BMW equivalent - the screen is better integrated on the Mercedes when looking at the 2023 M340i, but on the 2022 and earlier I much prefer the dash layout of the 3 Series. That said, the Mercedes system is probably the best system I've ever used that wasn't BMW iDrive, it's very different to the previous C Class which had arguably one of the worst systems around. I therefore wouldn't consider either to be a reason to pick or avoid the other, if that makes sense.

The M340i is also considerably cheaper than the C43 AMG. There are very few used C43 on the market anyway and many more M340i to pick from and if you are buying new the M340i has a lower list price than the C43 and is available with significant discounts from list price, which I do not believe is true of the Mercedes. From my brief research before I ruled it out it looked like a C43 would end up being at least £10k more expensive to buy.

Actually just had a look and there are quite a lot of used ones already at under £50k. That didn't take long!

There is, however, another option. The Coupe version of the C Class, which is just launching, has available in the range a 380bhp 3 litre turbo 6 cylinder engine, with almost exactly the same specifications as that in the M340i. I think therefore, if buying new, this is the car I'd get. It isn't an AMG, but is the C43 really a true AMG car either?

If it has to be a saloon or an estate, then it has to be the M340i. The engine makes that much difference.
I get where you're coming from but recent drives in 6 cylinder vs 4 cylinder cars (981 GTS vs 718 GTS) has shown me that just because it has 6 cylinders doesn't make it better. I found the 718 much more enjoyable to drive, and the M133 is a very good engine so I'll reserve judgment until I drive one. B58 is a great engine though so I will probably eat my words :)
I've sat in a new W206 and it's a pretty nice place to be, I found it a bit more comfy than the 3 series and wasn't too bothered by the layout as I'm used to MB now, but I didn't drive it so can't judge it based on that. Also the S205 feels slightly more spacious than the F31 so possibly this is the same for the S206 and G3x.
Also yes the C43 has depreciated massively! You can pick one up for ~£50k from MB directly almost new, which is a little tempting.

My F11 530D must know that I’m thinking about replacing it. Just come out for a walk and had a low coolant warning as we pulled into the car park. Opened bonnet and there’s a load of coolant leaking on the right hand side of the engine.
