BMW and M Power Owners

I'm actually just off the phone to BMW Insured Warranties as I had a change of heart and wanted to add on Roadside Assistance as the policy I took out with them in the last few weeks was without it. Had the occasion to use the BMW Assist Roadside Assistance service under my (yet to expire) original manufacturers warranty a week or two ago for a stone which got wedged between the brake disc and brake shield and was so impressed by the service that decided I wanted to add it on.

Strangely enough, if you wish to do this then what they do is cancel your original policy and sell you a completely new one with the RA added on, then refund you the cost in full of the original extended warranty you took out. Kind of expected to just be able to 'tag it on' to the original policy, but that seems to be the way it works! All took less than 10 mins on the phone. Very pleased with the service :)

definitely another vote for BMW Insured Warranty.

Have an X2 M35i which I had since it was 6 months old. when the car hit 20k miles, had a catastrophic gearbox failure a few weeks outside of manufacturers warranty. I have always driven in a very well behaved manner, never launch the car etc, so this was very surprising

Luckily enough I had purchased the extended warranty, was in two minds to get it, but now convinced I will always have it

got a 15k brand new gearbox fitted under warranty no questions asked.

This is why I'm sticking to 3/5 Series from now on. I daren't not have a warranty and I'm not paying thousands for one just to have a 7 Series (for example).

Well you know I have an M340i!
I wonder if it's because I didn't renew it in time, so I went a month without a warranty and then it started in October?

That could well be the reason. If you didn't have the chance to put in the discount code, you'll be paying more. Did they send you one?

This will probably be why - it looks like the cost for a new policy rather than a renewal. Renewals are significantly cheaper, which hopefully you will find when you renew yours this year!

You don't put in a discount code - the system just knows whether the car has an existing policy or not (and it'll then ask for a username and password to use which they send you if it does).

That’s what I was getting at, the login/password serves as the existing policy discount.

I imagine if you’re close to renewal then you can phone up and it’ll all be on their system anyway.

You can't buy a policy without it until the existing warranty expires. It's not a case of only getting the discount if you have the password, without the password it won't generate a quote.

Good evening all!

Still absolutely loving my 530D

One niggle is that it seems to have developed a high pitched squeak/squeal when I push softly on the brakes, is there anything I can do to rectify this, before I go back to Vines?

M Sport Pro package is that makes any difference

Thanks

My 730d and 840i both did this a lot, sounded like an old bus. Annoying, I had the brakes stripped and cleaned but it didn’t help. :(

I drove around braking quite hard to see if that helped, it maybe helped a bit, but ultimately not. :(
You need to properly stand on the brakes, the higher the speed the better to get some heat into them. It's not always guaranteed to work.

Could also be a stone between the caliper and disc!

What a positive thought  It’s whisper quiet but I’ve got good hearing!!!
