BMW and M Power Owners

I couldn't really hear it inside the car, just when I had a window slightly open, so it's not something I was particularly aware of a lot of the time.

After much umming and aahing and a surprisingly tough search for adaptive suspension I've finally moved on from my ancient E92 325i to this M140i. Was considering a proper M car but with the really small mileage I drive I couldn't justify the running costs for one. Really happy with the choice so far, definitely makes me grin like an idiot when the foot is down.

Quite the adventure with our 5 series at the back end of last year. Wife went into labour with our second kid, drove to the hospital and about 1 minute from the car park the car sounded like it was dragging along a bag of saucepans, no warning lights on the dash or anything. Made it to the car park and had a look under the car and couldn't see anything.

BMW insured warranty and roadside assistance to the rescue! 330e dropped off at the hospital car park, broken car picked up and ferried off to local BMW dealership (all whilst my wife was in labour and Enterprise/BMW calling me every 20 minutes to let me know what's going on).
Car was inspected and driveshaft dampener had sheared a few bolts and basically fallen off, the garage were fairly unhelpful in trying to explain how it happened which felt a bit concerning. Anyway, I now fully understand why the BMW warranty+Roadside assistance is so valuable, we had the courtesy car for 5 days (they were very accommodating knowing we had a newborn baby) and just going in to pick up the car and just being handed the keys and receipt with nothing to pay was great.

Some servicing advice required...

My BMW app is showing in the "notifications" area this:

In the regular services area:

In the idrive, it only says vehicle check and oil as per above, with no mention of rear diff

Dealer advisor says go by idrive only, but some research shows that the rear diff never shows in idrive

Does anyone have any idea if I need to get the diff oil done?

Anyone running a Trackstar tracker in their BMW (a fit option if I’m not mistaken) have any experiences to share? I’m in the process of taking up ownership of the account and have read people complain of repeated false alarms etc. Wondered if it’s more hassle than it’s worth, it isn’t a stipulation of my insurance so the need isn’t there although I would prefer the extra security

No, but I've had a Scorpion tracker installed in my car since I got it. In 12 months I've had two 'false alarms' and both half been addressed easily by calling their control room number. I do think they are worthwhile, overall - despite the risk of any false alarms

I had it in my M4, never had to use it, never received any alerts false or otherwise, so it could have been amazing and/or broken :p

Haha, if it was the BMW option then you should hear a beep when starting the car if you are carrying the tracker fob

Lol I just had the normal keys, no beeps, cards or fobs. I often wonder if sytner ever actually installed it, now I'm even more curious/suspicious!

I have the one without the fob fitted to my car. Dropped my insurance by £700 and was fitted by the dealer from new. I was the first registered tracker user and it never worked properly. Would sometimes be a day or so behind reporting my location or would stop mid journey only to update and complete the trip days later. Trackstar did everything they could to wriggle out of replacing the unit intil I started pinging their Facebook page with screenshots of it not responding. In the end they replaced it and the fault was because they had fitted a 3g until and the 3g network was being turned off. The 4g unit works flawlessly and never had a false alarm. Just rubbish CS.

Thanks, something to be wary about then. I presumed they fitted all the same trackers as an option, obviously not or they gave you a choice of which one you wanted.
