BMW and M Power Owners

Does anyone know if an F10 has brake pad wear sensors or if it’s just purely based on mileage? Mine says I need to change the front brake pads in 50km but they look like they have plenty of life left to me.
They all have sensors I believe.
Unless you've had a proper look it might not be wearing evenly or on the side you can't see.

There is one wear sensor at each end of the car that measures one side only.

Thanks, I'll get one sensor and a set of front pads then as they're cheap enough to not be worth risking there being wear I can't see.

Its been 2 months since i bought the 7 series. I spent nearly a year researching the 8 series thinking I was going to get one and then after being disappointed in the three I test drove tried the 7 after a Robbo suggested it.

My thoughts using it as my daily and long distance commuter:
  • The display key is a gimmick and a pain in the arse, Looks nice bit of a toy but cant attach my keys to it. needs constant charging and is massive. It now lives in my drawer and I use the normal key.
  • Car is massive, like really big. As its new to me I'm still overly precious and get twitchy if I park next to someone else. It also sticks out of most spaces.
  • Its a 730D so fuel economy is amazing. My F10 530D used to do around 50mpg. I have got 62mpg in this on mega long distance driving being very light on the right foot. I seem to get 58 on average. Wasn't expecting it to be better than the 5 series on economy. (in Eco Pro)
  • I can get nearly 1000 miles from a tank of fuel. Its big!
  • The assisted driving stuff is great. I love the adaptive cruise and lane assist. I can even take a picture of the dash while cruising on the motorway. (I don't normally do this)
  • I can fit my mountain bike on the back seat! I bought an dog seat cover and a bag for my bike and the rear bench is so wide my bike fits fine with the wheels off :p.
  • The adaptive headlights are hilarious. Especially when you are behind someone on a dark road and either side of their car its like Blackpool illuminations. The way they dance about is amusing. I love a toy that helps me be even more lazy.
  • Heads up display is great but the speed camera warning will randomly turn on the dong sound every now and then and the volume of it is insanely loud. (I plan to ask BMW about this when I'm next in)
  • 20" wheels on run flats are not ideal. While the car wafts along on good roads. Very bad roads leave me wincing every time I hit a hole. I think I will be changing these for non run flat Michelin e-primacy when they need it (mainly for the fuel consumption improvement)
  • Insurance renewal was insanely expensive. I had done some quotes online before buying but I was not prepared. I live in a lowest risk postcode i have 3 lots of 25+ years no claims etc and the renewal on 15k miles was £1100. I got this down in the end as I have multiple cars and my house insurance on one policy. But they really do take the **** come renewal time.
  • BMW charge you through the nose for anything extra. I enquired about retrofitting the electric towbar (to carry my bike not tow stuff). They told me £3k I nearly fell off my chair. That was just for the parts. £5.5k for the retrofit fitted. My bike now goes on the back seat.

Overall very happy with it. Feels like a lot of car for the money. Was a bit of a rush decision as i was so set on the 8 and bought this on a whim. But glad I did.

Glad you're enjoying it. I actually like the display key and the battery lasts a good 3-4 weeks or so, but it mainly stays in my jacket pocket. Certainly not important - unless you need to use the remote parking.

The 8 Series is even worse for parking, it's just as wide (if not wider) and the 2 door model has bigger doors!

My insurance is about £900 on 20k miles, albeit on the 740d which is group 50. Nowadays I didn't think that was too bad.

The assisted driving stuff is excellent and it's so easy to control as well.

I actually put a new set of tyres on mine recently and kept to runflats, it'd be interesting to compare. xDrive is a bit less straightforward when it comes to tyres and BMW...

I like the fact you don't really see many of them either, at least where I live. Makes it just feel that bit more special than something like a 5 Series.

@Dr House

I think the laser light is a near £2k job per light, and not accessible. It’s a bumper off job.

Seals going on £120 lights is one thing, especially if it’s accessible and you can clean it. But this has been designed to be replaced, not repaired - incredibly anti consumer behaviour.

Edit:

From BMW:

Irrespective of what the warranty terms are, here’s their own guidance.

Right, I gave the car a clean, dropped the price and took some new pics

Hopefully it will sell this time

Nice spec but I've seen the old pics so I'll offer 5k.

do you have the bmw warranty? that driver's side headlamp fog will definitely put a potential buyer off, that's a thousand or two to replace via bmw
yes it is, it needs to go back for some EGR thing so I will ask them to check it at the same time time.

I had just washed it and taken it to the park next door to take the pics so its probably dry by now

Finally got the Bilstein B12 kit and m performance bump stops fitted to my M140 today, wow what a difference straight away. It feels so much more stable on our crappy roads now!
I find the Bilsteins great on my F20 M135i. I went with a set of B8 shocks and Birds B1 springs as i was concerned that the Eibach springs in the B12 kit were going to lower it too much (my drives at a funny angle so it can be easy to bottom out with anything lowered). It rides soo much better than the old adaptive shocks that were on it

I also didn't want to lower the car too much as it's my daily and I didn't want to start having issues with speed bumps and car parks etc. I had a read around before buying and saw people say you get barely any drop from the eibach springs (the drop they quote in the description is based on standard suspension, not the already lower M140 suspension). Happy to say there's barely any drop at all, maybe about 1CM if that

Yeah, i bought the springs of someone who bought them for his M140i, but found they didn't drop that at all so he went for a set of Eibach springs. On my M135i they dropped it around 10mm, which for me was perfect. From what i read the Eibachs were more like a 15-20mm drop on the M135i

Headlight on the BMW looking MUCH better.

In my very short ownership with the car, I must say - I have fallen in love with it. As an overall package, best car I've owned and I think I would choose it over the Porsche if I had to own one car.

It's only going because for 2 years I need to free up some monthly cash. Long term plan is to get into an M340i touring. Non LCI though - pre facelift is a much better package having had an LCI for a week.

Haven't you just bought this?
