BMW and M Power Owners

The 440i, had its gearbox oil and pan done today. Along with a fresh engine oil and filter.

The chap said the engine oil was very metallic... and to expect bad things if luck doesn't sway my way.
Fun.

Tomorrow it's being diagnosed for the aux coolant leak. Hopefully that won't be a 1k bill to follow the £770 I had today... :/

However, better the devil you know and all that jazz.
not when you don't have the bmw warranty :/
but i guess you can always claim on insurance if the engine mod was already declared...or can you?

unless that guy who did the servicing is a total noob i guess he wouldn't have made that comment about metallic engine oil

All he does is BMWs so I'll trust his words.

I'm looking into prevention at this stage. I don't have any warranty on the engine, if it goes pop, I'll have to get it rebuilt. I'm setting 3k aside for this event. Just in case.

Unfortunately, to get into another 440i or other similar performance car, will end up costing more like 6k ontop of my car, especially at a dealer.

I could PX it against a 435d, however with the same spec, it's at least 22k and a dealer may give me 17k max px value on the 440i.... maths doesn't make sense here. Rather get the bearings done instead before it goes boom for a couple grand. Heh

Might just say screw it and PX it against this.

Love the colour haha
Isn't that dangerously close to a m340i price wise? The G20 is a significantly better build car than the F3x series, it really is a huge jump forward!

I see a few m340i for 26k-ish with low mileage / good history / not written off?
Sure you have to be a bit flexible about spec but even the poverty ones aren't that bad and, being a bmw - pretty much anything can be eventually retrofitted later on? (perhaps not a sunroof haha).
Once again - it's a massive leap forward so worth considering even if a bit of a faff

The £26k ones are higher mileage early examples, I don't think it makes sense to buy from the cheapest end of the market. It usually costs more in the long term anyway.

There are only 2 on auto trader at under 26k anyway, 30k gets you a much better choice of sensible mileage but lower specification cars. If you don't mind one with 40-50k on it there are even some approved used cars with warranty for just under £30k.

We're literally talking about 30-50k mile cars here with full history, that is anything but 'higher mileage', especially when compared to a car with metal shavings in the oil which is guaranteed catastrophic damage on the way! There are 4-5 at 26.xxx which most will haggle down a few hundreds but sure even with the approved used premium it's still worth considering given how much better the g20 is.

Not at all, talking at least 26-28k for poverty and the bad wheels, at least 30k or more for one with the basic options or closer to 33k for a good ticks all the boxes example.

G20 is BIGger and better (scanned the Achilles M5 touring 'review' 5m long > 2m wide 2.5T ) + you are obliged to also take on reliability risks of MHT

5yr old F31 I was inspecting today already feel like a tank compared to my 20yr touring,
about to sign but looking around at the hifi system speakers, back passenger well was soaking, so I'm holding off, to see if the dealer comes up with a good action plan,
the underside of front seats has some rust which I believe is par for the course, anyway, and moisture in the car won't be helping that or underseat woofers.

Some googling suggests this recall SIB 51 05 14, remove water drain grommets in engine compartment.
has anyone had that done ? did they improve the design

On the good side it's hifi system will accept my existing library of AAC/m4a songs, after trying some on usb key.

anyone had cabin leaks of f30/f31 LCI ? what did you expect dealer to show you to convince you it was appropriately fixed and dried-out ? (videos ....?)
I had removed complete carpet on my older tourer at one point, which seems only way to be sure, cutting it around centre console/heater.

So my X3 (2018) has a panoramic sunroof and noticed this with one of the rubber seals when washing the car the other day:

Its located between the passenger and rear passenger side pillar. The drivers side is lined up perfectly with no gap.

Didn't spot any leaks inside the cabin, so assume there is some channelling/ducting underneath that drains away any water that might enter?

I've no idea if its always been there (so by design to allow air to circulate in the ducting) or whether the rubber seal has shrunk over time due to heat/cold.

Anyone come across this before?
