BMW and M Power Owners

Errr an oil and filter service on an E92 335i is absolutely nothing like 400 quid. As little as half that.

It's not just an oil service, its the vehicle check, oil and air filters and MOT, which is what I had on the M3.

This is my 4th BMW; I know how much a service costs and whether or not I'm being ripped off.

But then why are you paying about 200 quid just for the mot portion? Unless its a bigger service too.

Anyway, my drivers seat forward / back motion only works a couple of inches at a time, clicks then I need to press the button again. It also won't move at all when using the memory buttons.

Any ideas? Initially I thought wiring but its fine, now wondering whether its the motor/control init ( don't even know if they're separate) and how to test it

Half of that? Try a quarter! I paid £56 for my service, plus £40 that I spent on my own oil.

Great so why imply it's the most basic form of service when the opposite is the case :p

Yea, it's all about how many BMW's you've had to as to whether you get ripped off for servicing, right? :p

Vehicle Check isn't an MOT. It's all the 'check this, check that' stuff from the old Inspection 1/2 services, but split out. It's every 37k miles on an E92.

Just had a quick test drive of a Z4M roadster just to get a general feel for the car as I'm looking at getting back into something more interesting and a euro road trip in July I'm planning won't be much cop in a ST220 lol!

I drove a 2006 model that was black with gloss black wheels and red leather interior. Maybe a bit too drug dealer looking on the outside for my liking.
First impressions were of a nice compact cockpit with a long bonnet stretching out in front and chunky steering wheel that felt a nice size to hold.
Steering feel was not too bad, much better than the ST but obviously no Lotus.
The clutch was a touch heavy but nothing to worry about in reality, also no problems changing from 1st to 2nd as I've read but maybe it's had the cdv removed already.

Ride quality seemed ok, no worse than the worn ST suspension but I didn't push it too hard or go down bumpy roads but will try to get one out on a bad road nearer the time I'll be buying.

The engine is a lovely thing, extremely smooth and pulled reasonably well from low revs all the way up to high revs although I was being kind to it in that there were some red/amber lights around the 7-8K range and it had only just been started from cold.
Makes a nice sound too, although a little muted on the intake sound I think.

Definitely think I'll end up with one of these, can't really see anything else similar that'll interest me.
The Boxster S is obviously the better drivers car but after two Lotuses nothing will touch one of those for visceral thrills or outright speed in a usable package.

Neil.

It's obviously the same engine as the E46 M3, which i guess means it should be able to have a CSL airbox or good copy carbon airbox fitted which makes it sound god like.

Actually given most Euro roadtrips involve far more sitting on Motorways than people like to think ironically it's likely that the ST220 will actually be very much cop and probably more pleasant than a Z4 Coupe :D

I think you can go for the Gruppe M and the like for 600/700 or so and you'll get a increase in noise. Evolve now do a huge carbon jobbie and mapping for a bit ott price

Sounds great though!

Well compared to a Lotus it'll be positively limousine like on the motorway :p
My plan anyway was to try and avoid as many motorways as possible really, but the twisty bits in between the motorways is what I'm interested in :)

It's a loooooooooooong way to the twisty bits though, time wasted not using the Motorways is time you can't then spend in the Alps :D

No you're right its down to whether or not you're a moron that doesn't know when he is being shafted by a dealer.

The S54 is all about induction noise, it's what makes the car especially in the CSL. I've only ever heard 1 exhaust I liked on an E46 M3, they just mostly sound loud and crap but there was one on YouTube in the US from years back that did sound a bit fruity.

That's true but a Lotus for me is fine for motorway jaunts of say up to three hours. So a Z4 would be be fine, positively luxurious in comparison :p

It seems like aftermarket bits for M cars are quite expensive, over 3k for a CSL style carbon induction and mapping

Yes, it's mad money and not worth it really. Sure it sounds fantastic, but I seem to recall people paying 6K for CSL bits as I think there is a bit more than just the airbox, couple of other bits and it adds very little bar a glorious noise. I love glorious noises, but 6K gets a nice amp and speakers :)

6K gets lots and lots of road trips and track days, yeah it's mad money considering at best you'd get 30bhp.
Much rather spend that on driver training where you'd make the most difference :)

We are all mere billies in the grand scale of things :D
