BMW and M Power Owners

Strong money for an auto that.

As its from a trade seller you won't be able to speak to the owner to see what's been changed in the last few years.

Check the receipts ( if there are any) to see what items have been done and check for rust, front wings not such a big deal ( apart from the fact the car is 6 grand and it'd silver), but anywhere on the rear arches and tbh I'd just walk away.

Plenty info on them if you do a quick search

Surely auto's are worth more than the manuals?

Very strong for an E46 though, i agree, not sure i could pay that for one now.

Looks nice, low miles are kind of irrelevant but obviously contribute to its quite high price. Depends how much you are willing to spend on one. I think they still command quite strong money because there isn't anything else at that price range which is equally as desirable or as good.

I've always seen it the other way round tbh, far more autos around than manuals meaning it "should" be easier to find a good one, driving the price down a little

Hey folks, I'm thinking of changing my E46 for an E92 M3. I've done a little research but thought I'd check with you guys about anything I should know about.

Budget is approx £30k although I think I'll get it on finance. Looking at 2010 or later and I'm keen to get DCT, Comp package with EDC, one of the higher spec stereos with connectedDrive and Bluetooth, folding mirrors. Niceties would be heated seats, armrest etc.

Any info/opinions would be welcome.

The Comp pack is 2011 along with the facelift. You'll probably be paying 36k for that.

I'm thinking either '11 M5 or '11 M3 with CP, deciding value might be their residual value in 2 years.

Yea seem it for around £35k depending on mileage. I don't mind stretching for a car I really want, and it shouldn't add too much to the finance.

As you say the residual will play an important part, I'm a little concerned at how the M4 will affect the residuals. But then if we get in early and get a decent GFV then that should hopefully mitigate it a little! M5 is too big for my needs unfortunately.

Well I'd not be spending £35k I'd get it on finance as I have no intention on keeping it longer then the finance package.

Any other suggestions?

£35k is a LOT of money to spend on an E92.

But as always its an M3, the new one is going to be near 60K when spec'd, so what else would you buy? C63, similar price if not a bit more and EOL, RS5 similar price if not more also EOL. If you want a reasonably new car of this sort that's the money you have to spend, I know you can buy older, but not everybody wants an older car.

You could by a F30 335i or 335D x Drive for that money, new, but neither are M cars or of the same "class".

Trouble is spending £35k and sitting in traffic looking at an interior the same as that in the £5k 325i beside you is surely ever so slightly annoying no matter how good the engine and handling package is?

I have to agree with Jinxy, yes of course there are cheaper cars out there but they aren't in the same league.

To get a relatively new high spec M3 it will cost £35k. Yes you are right, the interior could be the same as the cheap car next to you. However it won't be one of the best all round sports car you can get. It won't be comfortable and relaxed one moment and then a 400hp monster the next. Hell you could be in a supercar with no ac, no stereo or any amenities when stuck in traffic and everyone else is relaxing in comfort!

I'm lucky that I only go to work a handful of times a month and avoid the rush hours so it is less of a problem!

The M5 is in another league, it is a completely new generation for a start, the E92 feels very old beside an F10.

well that's it, I think (haven't done the figures yet) I'd walk away with more cash in the pocket if I'm keeping it for two years.

The inside of the 3 series cabin is a little off putting; the C63 was a much nicer place to be in. The insides of 5's are a big step up from the 3, so that ticks the box.

I'm wanting a more tuned engine experience after the 63 (along with a snappy DCT) and I'm thinking the M3 is the best suited to do that. However with the M4 looming, the values of the post '11 models will take a hammering.

It's been 3 years or so since I've driven a 92 M3 and that was a manual, so really need to drive the DCT version hard to start making sense of what I want.

Either way I'm weeks off knowing what I want to do.

I got a major puncture last night and had to drive home on the run flat tyres. :( The tyres were down to 3mm anyway so I'm not too mad.

At least it's given me an excuse to change the wheels and tyres which I've wanted to do anyway.

I've just ordered some 18" wheels (M359 style) and I'm trying to decide on what tyres to get. The sizes will be 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear. What tyres would you recommended? They will be non run flat BTW.
