BMW and M Power Owners

Every BMW battery replacement I have known has been where the original had lasted at least 10 years. 4 years is most odd.

It's a battery, get a Halfords special for £70 or so with the correct amperage.

Still on the original battery in my 13 year old, no signs of fading

:/ very strange, I've read loads of posts this morning with peoples batteries giving up after 3/4 years

BMW warranty helpline confirmed that provided the battery is equivalent in specification and for the vehicle in question it won't effect the warranty, had them make a note of this on my file too.

I'll check the voltage with the engine running this afternoon, if it's sub 14/14.4v then would it'll likely be an alternator issue?

C-TEK conditioner seems like the best first option.

I would at least try and condition the battery with a CTEK, they dont cost too much and are very good chargers even if you cant recover it. Just connect the CTEK for ages until the lights all go green, it never overcharges.

Which bit(s) chucked it? Unless you're doing a total gut including hoses and tank it shouldn't be too bad. Rad is about the most expensive individual component

Not quite sure atm but it's losing coolant pretty quick, need to take a proper look and see what needs fixing.

So yesterday I went down to Kent (In my friend's 120D M Sport. Which btw is a really good car. Never realised small diesel cars could feel so good and quick) and test drove the new M235i.

This particular car came in Alpine White and had tanned interior. It also cam equipped the BMW's M Performance exhaust, which sounded absolutely amazing.... From the outside. From the inside (with the windows closed you could barely hear it).

What was the drive like - As good as the M135i I test drove about a month ago. This test drive was a lot better though because I given the opportunity to take it down some tight B Roads :) . This is where the car really shines. Sod dual carriageway / motorway cruising. I love me some twisties. This car really knows how to tackle them.

With regards to the interior. There was nothing new (when compared to the M135i). Which to me, wasn't a bad thing. In fact I loved it.

Overall a great car. The only downside is that it a little big. I preferred the small more compact size of the old 1 series coupé. This just looks like a slighter smaller 3 series.

I really, really want one of these.

I really, really can't afford one though :(

Will see how the values hold up in a couple of years.

Has the fix to the otherwise hideous front end been confirmed for the hatch yet?

Just finance one on a PCP with an enormous balloon like everyone else, then you can :p

Nah I'll go for a lease on a 12+36 and 6k per annum. Be a mug to do anything else :p

* Edit oops that's 3 years not 4 - Bit worrying that I add stuff up for a living

I think the 1 is scheduled to receive a proper facelift (really needs one) next year.

Oh.. Forgot to mention, I placed a deposit on my new car too.

First BMW I've owned. I'm starting to like this brand!

Hope the other half doesnt see this post....

Have a TUV test at the start of next month and one of my rear tires is getting close to been worn out so want to get the rears replaced so they atleast match as currently the other rear is some crappy budget tire that came on the car.

As Im not sure what else I may need to fix I would rather not spend a fortune but also not buy something just as bad as it has now. So what can you recommend that's decent for the money? I have another set of wheels for winter so its just for summers.

Size is 255/35/18.

Heard good things about the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's but I only have a 2litre so its not like the rears are put under that much pressure.

When I bought the goodyears for the 330 circa 6 months ago they were only about 20 a corner more than decent midrange stuff anyway (The likes of hankook evo's - which are pretty decent).

I was initially unimpressed if i'm honest, but after about a month of use and circa 1200 miles they felt completely planted in the wet or cold as well as on dryer days.

I had conti sport contact 3 / 5's on the civic before hand which were also excellent.

Of the continentals/goodyears i'd just go with what's cheapest

That's what's on mine at the moment all round and although I've only had the car a month I've driven it in both very very wet and dry conditions and it's not once come to the front of my mind that they're letting me down in anyway at all.

Ride is good and they seem, as you see, to come recommended.

In 225/35/19 & 255/30/19 they can be had for around £140 / £170 each they're priced reasonably well, interested to see how much 18's cost!
