BMW and M Power Owners

Does anyone know how to remove the scuff plates on the door sill on an E81 (1 series)?

It looks as though they slide but I cant get them off without the risk of breaking the clips.

Thanks

As in this? Should be the same as all others from BMW where you pry off one end and carefully pull it up bit by bit.

Seems about the right price to me. My 325i was £4300 @ 61k miles almost a year and a half ago. That 330 doesn't have full service history either.

Why has the owner body coloured the rear valance? Looks totally crap. Also the state of those window seal strips... hasn't been properly washed in an age that.

Are the 1 series relatively quiet (compared to a 57plate C2) whilst driving?

I'm looking at a 56 plate, but if it's going to be just as noisy then I'll ditch the idea.

Looks in decent condition, seems too cheap though?

Its wheels are utterly buggered. Also the bottom strip at the back has been painted silver and it should be black, perhaps it's been in a rear end shunt and the bodyshop ended up spraying that too? Advert is also not written just produced by the autotrader wizard thingy, doesn't look like the owner gives much of a crap about it at all.

Don't think it's a shunt job, that's actually a "thing" on more E46s now among certain types of people as sad as it sounds. There are 2 E46s down here with body coloured valances.

They're fine if you go for one with sensible wheels. Friends 120i has less road noise audible inside the cabin than my e46 coupe. Depends on level of expectation though I guess, it's not going to be massively better

That's incredibly strange, have never seen it before so assumed it was messed up. Have to say the valance on the E46 is one of the only times I have liked black plastic trim, along with the trim that runs around the edge of the E39.

Been into BMW today, absolutely fell in love with the 4 series convertible in the showroom. It's been a while since I drooled over a new BMW. Must say the latest range of vehicles really are stunning. After the E46 era I did go off BMW a little but IMO they have got the styling spot on at the moment.

335i or 335d depending on what you want out the car. I averaged almost 40 mpg out my 335d (compared to mid - high 20's in the 335i), and it wasn't a HUGE amount slower than a 335i (my d was obviously remapped mind you, doing that to the i is a whole different level).

For low mileage, the 35i is the way to go for sure.

That does look like a cracking car. Nice low miles, and a great colour. Not so sure on the lighter leather but that's from experience, it does look nice if it's kept clean.

Try and get the CiC nav system if you can stretch to it. It came out just before the LCI cars, and it makes a massive difference. Of course, if your going for motors without nav (like in the link) it doesn't really matter.

Gearbox is great in Auto. Not bad at all, and I do love a manual box. I wouldn't worry too much about whats going on there.

Can you remap the 35i like you can the 35d?

the 35i already has 300bhp, i don't think anymore than that is needed but if i decide to remap, the D is the way to go?

Also what year onwards was the CiC introduced? I would prefer a car with the built in nav, then i can ditch my tom-tom thats gathering dust!

Yeah, you can remap the 35i and get even better results.

You can get a JB4 for the 35i which CAN give upto 80 BHP. Sounds a lot for a simple tune, but similar gain to the 335d, which can be mapped upto around the 360 BHP mark. While still being possible (easy in fact if you are relatively sensible) to hit the 40 mpg mark.

My average, over about 18k, in a remapped 335d was 37.8 mpg Compared to fuelly average of around : 37.2 average over 1,000,000 tracked miles for 2010 model, like mine). Could get 50 mpg on a really careful run, but I do a lot of fast motorway and town driving too, so 37.8 aint bad.

I suspect a tuned 335i wont be as good on fuel (Fuelly average for a 2007 model is 26.4 over 750,000 miles tracked), but then petrol is cheaper to buy (both car and fuel) so if you don't do many miles, you will likely get a better example of the 335i.

I think it was around 2008 for the updated nav, but don't pay too much for it. It can be retrofitted to a car, that doesn't even need to have had nav in the first place, for around £1100 if you have the ability to do it yourself.
