BMW and M Power Owners

Just wondering what the going rate for a good E46 M3 is nowadays? My brother is considering selling his. I'm not sure on mileage (probably above average as he commutes from Norfolk all over the country) but it is damn near immaculate, has had a full engine rebuild last year, recent suspension refresh, all wheel bearings replaced, all bodywork marks attended to, etc, etc. His love has always been cars and he used to work at a Mercedes main dealer so replacing and maintaining it has been a hobby and love.

I may not be able to buy it due to running costs and other plans right now. But he's asked if I'm interested and it must be one of the best condition E46 M3's out there. I know he'd offer it to me at a very good price as money isn't an issue for him right now. But I wouldn't want to take advantage of him, so - if I consider it which is doubtful - would want to pay market price. I'm actually surprised he's considering selling as I always thought he'd keep it forever. But his wife is trying to persuade him to buy another 911 and he has several cars already.

EDIT: No this isn't a disguised car selling thread as the car isn't for sale yet. I really am trying to gauge a reasonable value and whether I can consider it. It would mean parting with my Corrado which I would find very difficult.

Age & mileage are the usual price setters although a car like this IMO you buy on condition, it sounds good, I'd be sorely tempted if the price is right!

Size is 255/35/18.

Heard good things about the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's but I only have a 2litre so its not like the rears are put under that much pressure.
http://www.koenig-felgen.de/ have very competitive prices, and they're local :p

Get the F1 Assy 2s. Excellent tyres. Just because you've only got 150bhp doesn't mean you won't have to perform an emergency stop from 140MPH..

Where from? Is that fitted?

MyTyres / Camskill - tyre only.

Blackcircles & Event Tyres are about £15-20 pc more expensive but I'm sure you can get 4 tyres fitted for less than £80? That said Event will come to your home or place of work and have always done a good job and not damaged any wheels the few times I've used them, very convenient.

E46 M3's are such an anomaly right now. Prices range from ropey £6k examples to £15k mint examples, and let's not even discuss the CSL edition.

Prices also heavily rely on service history, whether it's independant or main dealer BMW, and whether or not the rear subframe has been checked and or replaced if necessary. This last point is crucial.

Also, is it the manual or SMG box? The general consensus is that the SMG box will throw up a £1,000.00 bill at any given moment so have that in mind with the purchase and prepare a slush funds of sorts. From my research I actually feel this is a touch of scaremongering.

The initial service was due at circa 1,200 miles so ensure this has been done. In reality, when searching and viewing literally hundreds of cars online, I've never found an example without this completed.

There will be owners who will be able to put more info here, I only know a little bit about the E46 M3 from extensive research, I eventually landed myself with a E46 330Ci as currently it would potentially financially cripple me, but the E46 M3 is still in the back of my mind for a future purchase.

A car soon to fall into the classics?

e; if your brother does want to sell it you at a lower price why not just go for it? The savings can be thrown back at the car to look after it properly which I'm sure he would like to see, and if he wants to see the car remain in the family, take advantage of such an offer? Just my two pence worth.

Also, if it is, estoril >

Thanks for that. It's a really good price for the rears. Id be inclined to order the rears to be delivered online and then book in at say blackcircles for the fronts fully fitted and ask them to do the rears at the same time when i arrived.

Replacement OEM or retrofit?

If retrofit try and buy the flush fit sensors as they look much better than the usual efforts. A couple of different companies do them, circa 60 quid colour coded - they'll be on eBay.

If OEM probably BMW or bmminiparts

Oh these are just to replace the ones on my car that have failed. 2 have failed completely (no ticking) and the other 2 are ticking faintly as opposed to the last time I checked when they were audible without having to put my ear right up to them.

Been quoted £37.50 for genuine ones via parts gateway from a "BM Bitz" - They have 90 days money back. Colour coding not an issue as I'm getting a scratch on my bumper sorted soon anyway so will just get them to spray the sensors too.

How much are new ones though (I genuinely don't know)? If its anything less than double I'd probably just go with some new ones.

You'd need to check it was the right part, but if non painted isn't an issue 4 of these could be what you want?

Edit 2 - those look wrong compared to the other e46 sensors but there seem to be some for 40 each new

Genuine new ones going on ebay anything around the £22 mark each and that's unpainted and not shipping from the UK. I've put in a quote to Cotswold for a set via BMWLand so just waiting on their price.

Edit*
£137.46 each inc VAT from BMW.... lawls.

I would have said that was a pretty good price personally, it's even got nav (iDrive??). However it's missing Xenon's so the front end looks a little poor.

Iirc from looking at 335i's, the 330i's around 07-08 with 30-40k are like 12 grand so that seems decent to me.

Eugh Auto though.

Does anyone know how to remove the scuff plates on the door sill on an E81 (1 series)?

It looks as though they slide but I cant get them off without the risk of breaking the clips.

Thanks
