BMW and M Power Owners

What's the general consensus on the electronic suspension on the F10? Some reviews say it's critical, others say they don't miss it. Starting to look at these as a replacement for my current ageing Mondeo. I've had BMW in the past so the rest of the options are familiar to me. Thanks!

It's very rare on the used market so you will find it hard to find. Also be aware if it's a used car damper replacement is huge money too.

I've got the standard SE suspension and it is a bit bouncy on uneven roads, would be interesting to have tried the upgraded suspension to see if it tightens things up a bit.

Finally got round to fitting and coding my LCI rear lights yesterday. Really happy with how they've freshened up the rear end

An E46 Sport coupe? It does feel genuinely sporty, doesn't matter what engine or fuel variant you buy into the chassis is the same. Yes you can tell the weight when you approach the limits but you feel everything nicely through the steering wheel and the steering rack has a nice weight to it and is responsive.

Providing you buy one that has had the control arm bushes and other suspension components checked and replaced where needed in the last couple of years then you'll be rewarded with something that feels nicely planted on the road and feels even better the moment you show it some twisty roads.

Stick to good tyres as well because that is the foundation on how any car ultimately feels on the road.

By comparison when I drove a newer 330D M Sport I found the steering too light, I could drive it with 1 or 2 fingers without issue and the rack didn't transmit the feel of the road either. It looked and felt sporty but I wouldn't feel confident driving it on the same roads the way I can drive my own car.

Thanks for the input mrk :)

Having a quick look on Autotrader does something like this seem reasonable? Advert?

Looks ok but doesn't mention if it has xenons so I assume it's just projector halogens. It's a manual though which you don't find too often!

I'd be wanting xenons personally.

Perhaps others will give more info too :)

From me just having a noodle round on PH & AT manuals seem fairly common which is precisely what I'm looking for. I do very little mileage (10 mile round trip for work  ) so the onus is on something which is fun rather than cruising ability (yes, I think this ticks both boxes).

Xenons are trivially easy to retrofit in a facelift coupe so it's a total non issue.

Good to hear Fox, thank you.

edit: something else I just thought of. What are options for in car entertainment? I don't think I've seen one with any kind of fancy nav screen inside yet? I'd like to change the unit to something else and ideally get rid of the tape deck!

You've been quiet recently! Still enjoying the car? Lights look good, have you sorted out the coding to stop the flickering on start-up and error codes or just going to live with it?

Me too. There's one in the dealer down the road. Tempted to go in just to have a look.

I wonder what the depreciation will be like on them. I've got just under a year left on my x5, I'd be tempted to get a year old one as my company car payment in a year if they've come down a fair bit and keep the x5 as a family wagon.

I'm interested to hear about people's experiences with the N53 engine please!

Torn between a facelift 630i which has the N53, so more economical, less reliable and increased cost but has padddle-shift and newer iDrive.... or an older model with the N52 so more reliable and lower purchase cost but older idrive and no paddle-shift :( I can't find anything that ticks as many boxes for the cost of the 630i.

From what I've read the N53 can be a bit of a mare, which is rather off-putting; fueling issues, injectors, coils and they occur quite often :(

Parents had an E60 with that engine years ago, it had all 6 coils and the ECU go and either injectors or the fuel pump before they got it, cant remember which. When it works its a very good engine and surprisingly frugal but I wouldn't want a non warranted one.

Not overly fussed about the cost, I'd get a warranty regardless. It's just the potential ticking time bomb. My current car is very reliable I'd like the next car to be the same. Granted an old BMW won't be that reliable but the potential to be stranded at the side of the road with an N53 seems high. N52 doesn't appear to be as bad if it's been looked after but then the other aspects of the pre-facelift 6 series are less appealing.

The guy said casually "say after three years it's worth 52ish then... " so not sure if that's just a passing comment or their predictions.
