BMW and M Power Owners

Just realised work puts him up, and pays his insurance. At 20!

Can't have much experience or any qualifications. What amazing job is this? We can all do it guys!

Actually your far far far from the truth. Also I'm not working for a 'law firm'. Would I be driving such a good car if I couldn't get company insurance? Then no. I wouldn't 'dwindle' my life working for a law firm. Try something more intellectual. Also, the qualification line made me laugh. Anyway worry about your own lives.

Understand your point Peerzy, I have a fair bit saved myself but I'm starting at a law firm in London later this year and I will be put up in an apartment so not really looking at getting a property currently. Perhaps buy to let, but in the next few years when I'm settled.

The RS is 2.5 so I highly doubt I'd be able to get insured on that.

At 20 you could quite easily insure that car on a standard policy, no idea why you think you'd need some sort of special company insurance. It's a diesel saloon, not an M5.

Lol cheers mate, was just about to link that post.

And intellectual jobs tend to require qualifications. Or experience. Or both.
At age twenty you're very very unlikely to have a lot of experience or have completed a full length degree.

Also judging from the thread you started about your buggered laptop you ain't too intellectual as it didn't occur to you to return the new item that didn't work after just a few weeks!

Not sure if I'm jealous or not. All I can afford at 24 is an up to £5k e46, but on the other hand its not a x20d bland lower execmobile like everyone and their mum has. Really nice colour though.

(nope I didn't spend my whole budget on my heap of junk!)

Yeah but not working for a law firm now. Have gone into something else. Can we stop worrying about my life. Also the insurance post was posted BEFORE I was in the position to get company insurance. Anyway there was no bragging here, nothing only questions and my thoughts. People will always moan. Peace.

So a quick career change, not bad (good age to do it). Well done for finding a firm thats so happy to pay the new guys personal car insurance bill though, even for something like an X6.

Let's reign in the personal chit chat lads

He's clearly a bit unsure on what his needs are and needs guidance, not a witch hunt

Personally I love my X6, it's great, and even if behind the dashboard somewhere are some stuff from an E60, I'm not fussed. Plenty people on these forums drive E46's - a car I've had 3 of - and I loved those, no issues with their age what so ever.

I'll happily use the X6 for a couple of years then see what's around that I fancy having then. If this ElliotJames guy wants an X6 why is that a problem?

Because you didn't spend 50 grand on yours or move from an F series car so it's a bit different. You don't need to look behind the dash though, the e60 literally stares you in the face as the actual instrument panel itself :p

Elliot will be buying a Ferrari or something next so I wouldn't get too worried about it.

Beyond guidance I think. Given the previous history of being given guidance.

It's a fingers in ears and lalalalalala situation.

Good point shaank.

[TW]Fox, I understand your point completely however surely it's down to the individual and their preferences. I am not talking from assumption, I did 300 miles in it on the day I had it and I thoroughly enjoyed it. At the end of the day people will have different opinions on cars.

Oh and the Ferrari can wait 6 years.

yeah ok granted re the dash / instrument cluster. And yeah I didn't spend 50k on mine, faaaar from it.

However I know you hate the E60, but the E71 is on par with my E9x build quality wise (granted I know that's also not what it was back in the day, or the equivalent of some of the F range). It's definitely not as bad as many think, and it drives very well with the 40d engine with the 8sp auto box - so these things make it superior to the E60 to me ;)

btw off topic, but liking the new rims Fox :) Big improvement over what it came with.

Anyone know how much to replace the 'seatbelt assistant' on an e92? Or, would this be covered under the insured warranty?

Mine comes out fine but the end piece doesnt spring out to catch the belt. Its a bit annoying! Alternatively, anyone aware of a fix or how to?

Ta :)

Worryingly I managed to spend just shy of a grand on the 335i yesterday on a few bits and pieces; an expensive day but well worth it!

Firstly I took the car to TWG Automotive in Camberley, a BMW and Mini specialist, to have the intake walnut blasted. This is an essential piece of maintenance required on direct injection engines once the reach ~50k miles as the intake gets coked up due to the lack of fuel wash you'd get in traditional non-DI cars.

I'm still waiting for them to send me the before and after photos, but I saw them yesterday and the difference is impressive. The main benefits of having this done are improved MPG, smoother and quicker pickup and performance and a much-improved idle, and I'm seeing all of those already. On the 20 mile journey from Camberley to Isleworth I was stuck in stop-start London traffic for around 10 miles and I somehow managed to sustain 29mpg!

TWG also fitted new discs and pads all round as the existing ones looked to be the originals and had a nice lip on the the discs. They also adjusted the handbrake so it has a lot more purchase.

I then drove up the road to Isleworth to meet up with a fellow member from e90post. He has one of the nicest E92s in the country but is selling up so putting the car back to standard; he was looking for somebody with a Sparkling Graphite Metallic car who was wanting to swap some parts with him. I gladly offered my services and swapped my standard rear diffuser and sideskirts for his BMW Performance carbon diffuser and M3 sideskirts (plus a bit of money his way)

I'm really happy with the results and here are some pics of how the car looks now:

It's covered under warranty but the end piece which is the bit that will need replacing is only about £30. If you have the typical £100 excess then you're better off doing it yourself.

I actually got mine done under warranty but only because it was done under a bigger warranty claim. They also fit some plastic spacers to the metal rod the bottom of the seatbelt attaches to, which helps the seatbelt assistant pick up the belt more reliably.

Looks really nice scratch. The reason I went for the MSport skirts on my old E92 is because genuine M3 ones didn't fit non M cars. Since the ones you have fitted must be replicas, can you give an honest opinion on how they fit? Some people said that body lines particularly around the rear wheel/skirt didn't match up great.
