BMW and M Power Owners

Right folks. I need bulbs.

I need some replacement front indicator bulbs, front sidelights, and front main beams. Car is a 2002 E46 with xenons.

What sidelight and main beam bulbs will match the colour of the Xenons.. any recommendations?

I presume for front indicators philips silver visions are still the bulb of choice?

Matching sidelight bulb colour with the Xenons will certainly look aftermarket and depending on who you ask, tacky too. have a Google image search for examples of how it can look before you pony up any cash for this change. I used to have same colour sidelights but went back to stock colour as it really makes the Xenons stand out more and has a more aggressive look about them.

As for the mainbeam, how often do you use them in order to need them to be the same kelvin as the Xenons? :p Just get to spec bulbs and you're golden!

As for indicator bulbs, yours is prefacelift if it's 202 I take it so silvervisions will look smarter. I haven't checked if ECP still have their sale on but an up to 50% off round was going on recenlty.

Really? Always thought coupe facelift was 2003 and don't recall ever seeing a 2002 plate one with facelift front end or LED rears :o

Although I assumed Conanius has a coupe :p

On a z4m are there any options that are detrimental or essential?

Are you after a roadster or coupe?

Pretty much:
-Xenons
-10 speaker upgrade
-Sports seats (pretty sure they're standard on the M though)
-Auto dimming rear mirror & side mirrors (the car's low so when in traffic it's very easy to get blinded by whatever's behind)
-Heated seats + the wind deflector if a roadster.

Nothing's detrimental as such, but the business navigation is a bit crap. The professional navigation is good but isn't required to "make" the interior.

Watch for DSP - if you want to add bluetooth or music on an iPod or USB stick then it narrows your options down considerably. This is somewhat the case for navigation too, IE all other options look crap when compared with the iPod + Intravee setup.

Hi All,

Yep, it is a 2002 Touring.

I use my main beams a lot - do a lot of country lane driving - so I'm keen to get the increase in visibility that replacement bulbs will offer. These appear to be the original bulbs, so almost anything is going to be an improvement.

Ah right, Osram Nightbreaker in that case will be the ones that will get recommended the most and rightly so, they're great. I've not tried the Unlimited but the normal nightbreakers were a marked improvement over stock.

Also did exactly the same. Had LED sidelights which matched the Xenons perfectly but always felt they looked a bit chav. Decided to move back to normal bulbs after seeing the below photo of my car from before I put LEDs in.

Robbie, when are we getting a vid of the new exhaust? :)

When it stops being miserable outside :D The sound is much better around town and when idle, it burbles softly when idling and when accelerating around town. At motorway or dual carriageway speeds it's quieter than the stock single pipe exhaust. I need to golf tee out the butterfly flap thing too as it's permanently open so no point being there.

But yes I agree on the above, when I had my oil service done and went to pick it up after work my garage would have closed by the time I walked over to them so they offered to pick me up in my car from the ferry to save time. As the mechanic drove up you could see how the contrast between warm white and pure white sets the Xenons off nicely

Check out the Z4 Forum, very useful and helpful over there :) http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/

These links should start you off:

They also have section for selling cars on the forum, worth checking if you're interested in getting a Z4M as they'll usually be well looked after if it's a forum regular.

Thanks for this.

There are 2 used approved ones in London that have caught my eye, then there is this one locally...

Mileage is high but I don't do all that many miles, and these engines are super reliable to 150k+? (please correct me if im wrong?)

Can this one be taken to BMW and given a warranty or do BMW not offer that for cars purchased outside the BMW network?

You can buy the warranty yourself on a non BMW approved car. It is however very expensive for cars over 60k miles, so expensive I would question if its worth it.

Hmm, got any details on this? Might use it as a haggling point with the dealer, seeing the car in an hour

Here is the quote I got from BMW for My M3 on just over 110k. I about spat my tea out when I first seen this but in hindsight with a 2k bill for a new SMG unit now it doesn't seem so bad.

Annual Payment
Driveline Warranty
Excess: £250
£2888.00 per year

Monthly Pay As You Go
Driveline Warranty
Excess: £250
£265.00 each month

Might be a little late for you, but the best way to find out is call up the BMW warranty place, and ask for a quote. I believe the cost basically doubles after 60k miles, so this one at 68k is just a little bit past what might seem reasonable.

Prices are based on the model only, so there is basically zero cost difference between a 318i and a 335i for example. Of course, as you are looking at a Z4 over 60k, this may be up there in the not worth it category. However, it may make a good bargaining chip for negotiating money off with the dealer. You can always ask them to reduce the price further for supplying no warranty, and take out the BMW warranty when you get it. BMW may want to inspect the car first though if it doesn't have full BMW service history.
