BMW and M Power Owners

Surely it's quicker to go to google, type in bmw warranty customer services, click on the contact us link that comes up as the very first hit and call that number than it would be to post random, vague questions on here about it?

Replacement chains, tensioner and guides on order, along with a cam locking kit.
Autodata quote 18 hours to change the guides, which basically means I'll be out of the X5 for at least the next fortnight.

Are you doing this yourself?

You will also need a lot more proprietary kit than just the cam locking tools - the timing of the VANOS units and placement of the 'impulse' wheels is crucial for the engine to run to spec.

If you are paying someone else to do it then ensure they know what they are doing, otherwise expect for the front cover to come off more than once.

I would also ensure that they replace the sump gasket at the same time, anything less is a bodge.

Have a squeaking coming from the front of my engine bay whenever it's cold or damp outside. From looking closer and also online it seems to be the serpentine belt + tensioner. Has anyone done this job before on an automatic E46? Looks like quite a simple job but the auto adds the fiddlyness of the fan.
Ahhh tensioners.... The common failure point is the pulley itself, I swapped it twice as the internet told me it couldn't possibly be the tensioner. It was the tensioner and I bought a dirt cheap one on eBay (cheaper than buying the Dayco pulley on its own), fitted it and it was absolutely perfect ever since. Bonus is that I now have 3 spare pulleys that are perfect too for a car I no longer own

Mine was an auto, to be honest it's a relatively easy job, you can do it without removing much (in the e39)...

Top trivia: There is no difference in the job between auto and manual E39's as all E39's had a viscous fan. On the E46, the manual makes do without a viscous fan making this and other jobs much easier.

You don't need a special tool to do that, done them more times than I can remember with just a screwdriver to hold the pulley. Most of the time it will loosen just by giving the spanner a good whack anyway.

Anybody replaced a radiator on the E39? mine gave way last night with a small hairline crack and spewing coolant all over the place, temp light in the red etc.

Hi guys

Need some quick advice. About to place an order for a 428i m sport GC and can't decide between Estoril Blue and Mineral Grey. EB looks awesome on the coupe but not too sure about the GC. Also I don't want the car to stand out too much and attract unwanted attention (getting keyed, scratched etc). Will go for a black leather interior plus the m sport plus package which includes the blue callipers which I think will go well with MG.

I know its a personal preference etc but wanted your thoughts.

Cheers

My preference if I was lucky enough to be in the position to buy a new 428i :) would be Mineral Grey with a red leather interior. I'm probably in the minority though.

Kudos for picking the 428i not the 420d :D

Thanks ! I held out long enough which paid dividends, bizarrely the 428i is now cheaper than the 420d on a lease. Plan is to buy it outright at the end of the two years.

so what colour would you go for?

Would you fine young ladies recommend a change of tyre for a Z4 with 225/50/16 standard RE50A runflats?

Can't find or anything decent in this size but have seen the Eagle F1 Asy 2 for £120, but that's a 55 profile.

I'm not looking to change from the standard OEM 16" rims, just seeing what would be better than the pants runflats.
