BMW and M Power Owners

I was supposed to have a test drive this weekend but had to cancel. I've got no intention (or £100k!) to buy one either but it's such an intriguing car. I've heard that the power output is one of the only issues people have, but the overall package is what makes it desirable I guess.

Nothing yet. Sold it because we're moving house and I wanted some buffer money in case we need anything doing that is outside of the budget. Hopefully it won't be and I'll buy another BMW in the summer. Not sure what I'd replace it with yet but I like the idea of a 640d. For now I've got an E46 330d touring, which is perfect for getting me to work and back and for cycling trips.
That's interesting you say the M135i feels faster than your Z4 because I thought it was the opposite. There wasn't much in it, but I thought my Z was slightly faster. Did you have the DCT gearbox in your Z4?

Yes, mine was the 35i with DCT. For me, the M135i is just so much easier to drive fast. It doesn't sound as good but the power delivery and handling is much better IMO.

Have you driven the M135 much?

Done a few hundred miles in a friends M135i when we went cycling. I didn't get much of a chance to try out the handling as we were fully loaded with kit. The N54 is quite spikey in comparison, but it was barely noticable for me. You definitely have more sense of occasion driving the Z.

Agreed - the Z is definitely a cool place to be and I really miss that. But I've been incredibly impressed with the 1. It feels really planted when pushing on in a way the Z never did.

I sold mine to a dealer for £17.5k. It was £500 less than what I would have taken for a private sale so I'm not too upset. I covered 20,000 miles in it and lost £6k in depreciation, which is a fair chunk but I can live with that. It was worth it for me, I had some great drives in it.

I ended up doing about 50k miles in mine in 3 years. I'm certainly going to miss it on those warm summer evenings. The M135i doesn't burble like the Z

The "dreaded" gearbox malfunction warning light -cog with exclamation mark- has been illuminating periodically, if I stop and switch off, it goes out again, every time, (it's done it 3 times this week but not previously in my ownership) the 'box is behaving apparently fine, it changes up & down smoothly and is quick to change gears or engage reverse, no clunks or shunts from the driveline...

The only time I've seen this light previously was my old 528i where the 'box seemed to stay in 3rd when the light was on (again though, it cured itself once the car had been restarted)

Any ideas?

Interesting, gives you an idea of the sort of margin they have at times.

Not really that much, £3k, they would have spent £500 on the warranty, say another £100 prepping it, £500 discount when the sell it so that leaves around £2k profit after VAT

Actually it's a Stratstone car - apparently they have a strict no discount policy and price the cars 'to sell' which is why Stratstone AUC cars always have a bizarre pricepoint (Notice how it's 18573 not 18495). I was reading some posts by a salesman there once who explained how it worked - they couldn't even offer 50 quid off.

And sure enough when I was looking every Stratstone car was priced at the sort of price you'd have hoped to end up at after negotiations everywhere else.

Discovered my non sports auto F10 actually still has a sports mode, made the commute more fun the last couple of days. Probably should have read the manual.

You didn't like the amber angel eyes? - The newer BMWs with white LED halos just look aftermarket, to me :p

There's something fresh and stand-out when the halo is amber and the Xenon ball of light is nice and white in the middle, it makes the car stand out more when the lights are on, especially from a distance.

I feel the same about sidelights on cars that don't have angel eyes, when people change them to white or LED ones to match the Xenon colour. It just looks off!
