BMW and M Power Owners

Just noticed slight hesitance at around 5k rpm when giving my E39 530i auto the beans, either in high gears or lower gears going up hill. Could it be due to me filling the tank with 99 RON this morning when the last two tanks were 95?

Got the VANOS seals to do, but I don't think it's that. Any ideas?

So I went to another dealer today to get a quote on discs and pads all round (it came to £500).

Turns out the car was already in their system from the previous owner.
Although I knew the car was local, it never occurred to me to check it out with that particular dealership.
Anyway, I asked if they could print out a log of all the work done, and to my surprise I saw, amongst routine stuff, €7000 worth of work for 'underside bodywork and airbag repair' about 5 years ago!

Unfortunately the only person who can give me specific info is on holiday for another 3 weeks..

Inspection 2 and MOT yesterday, only needed to be retested on two things, both of which I knew about. Offside front indicator, new light and cracked and broken, a droplink bush (or something), which I had in the boot. Not too bad, dealer prices are slightly scary however -

MOT - Was meant to be £55, now down to £35
Service - £339, which is fine
But labour and parts (just the indicator glass) - £180, to change a bush and light. :o

Did you HPI it before buying? Not preaching, just interested as that shoudl have been flagged.

My car's first MOT under my ownership yesterday....

£27.50 from Halfords, and though the middle of my front tyres were fine i wasnt sure if the edges might have been pushing it, so had priced up some new fronts and had them on stand by to order at a local garage.

Car passed with only a single advisory, which was "low oil level"....that's a new addition to the testing isnt it? I'm guessing that since they didnt advise on the front tyres they're fine then.

Tom.

Tom!
What did you do about your whiny diff in your E46? Sell it on before it blew up?

Filling it up with oil got rid of a lot of the noise tbh, only noticed it then cos i knew it was there.

Did another good few thousand miles in it before selling it :)

Might as well post these here too.:)

There's a bit of bubbling on a couple of arches, and a bad bit of by the rear, offside light cluster, all of which I'll get sorted in the next few weeks, Serviced and MOT'd yesterday/today, can't wait to pick it up tonight!:D

I had a whiny diff on my E46 too. It was completely normal as far as i remember. There was a TSB released which used a butyl strip to deaden the sound between the diff and the cabin. Mine used to whine slightly at about 70mph, wasn't bad though.

The Z3 is well known for its noises, but the volume surprised me yesterday, but I haven't driven it for 2 weeks so maybe that's what caught me out..
