can anyone tell me why my car does this:

2007 e92, on the indicator stalk there is a picture of a p with 3 dashes coming off it like a symbol for lights.

if i press the stalk up or down when the ignition is off it turns on the left or right headlight.

whats the point of this?

It's a parking light, so if you've parked on an unlit country lane you can illuminate the sidelights (front and back) on one side of the car so others can see you easily.

To allow you to comply with the highway code when parking at night. Never read it?

The only one I've ever seen is an old guys merc that he used to leave outside the pub every night with parking lights on....in the car park....inevitably before he drove home

Most of the cheaper 6 cylinder cars seem to be very poor spec unfortunately.

Yep, it has pro nav, petrol and a nice cream interior but no xenons = 3/4

I use it but only when I'm parked in what I feel is a potential risk area where I can imagine a driver possibly not seeing my car, even though it's a perfectly legit parking spot on the road.

Right so the car I am looking at is at 67k - 528i and had it's last service at 53k.

What is the likely damage of the next service and when would it be due? Is it a major one with spark plugs and belts?

That's a Car Giant picture isn't it? You might get a decent car but it's always a gamble and their after sales service is not that well rated to put it mildly.

Difficult to know what the next service is without looking at the book but it doesn't have a cambelt and auxiliary belts are not part of the service schedule. You can get service pricing at www.bmw-service.co.UK.

Though it's too high mileage for a non ripoff warranty.

Yeh would like a sub-60k car for the warranty but adding that to the "wants" list makes it far too hard/ expensive to find a car - this tax push towards diesel has been a disaster

Ran a quick quote on BMW warranty and got £91/m which I think I will just risk.

Sorry one more question to draw on your expertise - any way to check spec from number plate?
