Gah the 330 has gone wrong again:(

I suddenly started hearing a rubbing/ slight friction noise from my rear offside wheel after releasing the handbrake and pulling away. It stops when I put the handbrake on. Ill see if one side is a lot more effective than the other later. Any idea what could have broken?

stuck pad? when you put the handbrake on you are probably engaging both the pads and somehow moving the stuck one, maybe?

I'd just have the wheel off and check the pad clearances and condition.

If the pad is stuck, would I need a new pad or would it just be a case of unsticking it?
Could just be a binding piston, if you know how remove the caliper and strip it down.

It might not be that at all, could just be a stone stuck in the pad too.

Either way, get the wheel off and have a good look at both sides.

The handbrake operates brake shoes within the brake disc so just taking the wheel off won't reveal the problem. The calipers and brake pads are for just for the regular brakes not the handbrake.

Went into Elms BMW in Cambridge yesterday, it was just embarrassing!

The salesman was trying to sell me a 530D, six months old and 8K on the clock for £38K, I pointed out I could buy buy one cheaper new from a franchise dealer for less than that! (I actually showed him the adds on Autotrader as he said he didn't believe me)

Cambridge is just such a useless place for buying cars, you would think people would shop around but no, they seem to willing to pay £6+K over the odds just to get in from the Cambridge dealer.

A woeful experience, I guess I shouldn't have expected any better. The salesmen said "we sell loads of cars at these prices", sorry but not to me you won't!!

Elms are the worst dealer I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with, and that was before they moved into their shiney new site. They were even worse when I went there last year looking at the M235i and 435d, never returned calls, cam back with stupid pricing, just hopeless. Go to Lancaster in MK and ask for Saro, much better experience.

Same guy I've dealt with for my new car Jinxy. Excellent guy, I'd highly recommend him too. He's on some BMW event in Iceland until next week, should be back Tuesday I think he said.

Priced like it too, especially for an independent who can't put 2 years bmw warranty on it for you. So that'll be 80ish a month from July when the factory one runs out.

As much as I can get for < £40k ;)

I guess stuff I really want is HUD, Variable damper control (VDC) and a really good sound system and it can't be white (yuk)!

Another £80 a month doesn't sound too scary for a comprehensive BMW warranty.

It doesn't but when 99% of these are at main dealers who can be convinced to chuck in 2 years...

Sure but I bet you could get that car for £2K off it's listed price with some haggling ;) (you could just then throw that money into the warranty)

I've never seen a 6GCs with such a massive spec come up on AUC.

ditto everywhere else too, I have yet to fail getting 2k off and my cars are half the price :p I would be wanting closer to 4k off that.

My point is that independents rarely offer a good buy at this end of the market.

Well there aren't many 6GT on AUC (9 cards in total, only 1 under £40k), this one

http://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/6-Series/...84124-604933654-3496996.aspx?srcmdc=se_na_re_

isn't bad but it's the spec isn't a patch on the other car, that said it's done very few miles and it a 2014 car from a franchised dealer.

So if you could get the original car for around £36K do you think it would be a reasonable buy?

Problem is there are just so few 6GTs on offer on AUC and the spec on that car is tremendous! ;)

Don't forget that the standard spec on the 6 is exceptional so even cars that look like they don't have much spec actually do.

That 14 plate one highlights my point, very good spec and far newer. Why would you pick the independents car over that?
