BMW and M Power Owners

Sounds good, always nice to buy from somebody who's reluctant to sell.
As for your question,OEM from ECP / GSF or Pagids if you prefer.

Which is the OEM brand though? I'm sure pagid will be fine, but if I can get what BMW use for a similar price I'd probably be tempted to do that.

Also is 0w30 Castrol Edge correct for an M54 engine? Did a quick google while in shop and it came up but reading up since some say 5w30 is better?

Not sure which is OEM tbh, but from this list, I'd opt for Pagid.

I assume yours would be similar, the above search (from Google) is for the 3.0

I have 5w 30 in my 530i and had it in my previous 325i (both M54) although I'm fairly sure 0W 30 wouldn't matter if it were that in it instead.

Actually I'd have textar pads over pagid, but they're much of a muchness really. Buy the wear sensor too, again doesn't cost much

The oil is fine

0w30 is the correct oil but frankly 5w30 is fine too.

I read somewhere that the M54 is more prone to higher oil consumption with 0w 30 which is why I opted for 5w 30, over 6k miles in my 530i and 10k in the old 325i I haven't had any noticeable consumption with either...

I have a mate with a later M54 engined e60 which drinks it like a fish though, no matter what he's tried.

So, unplugged the i3 this morning, showed 85 miles remaining when setting off. Drove around, did some shopping and got back home with the meter showing 63 miles remaining.

I had the heater off but radio on only and drove normally with a few bursts of electricity power. Total driving distance was less than 10 miles. Town traffic filled with a lot of start/stop will likely see ~50 miles range from a charge I reckon on this.

Also almost ran over a child at Tesco. He simply did not hear me coming and decided to ride his bike across the road!....

Is it the regular business radio? You can't really 'update' it and about the only setting you can change is the clock into 24 hour IIRC.

Yes; but it has the high end hi-fi and amp with the sub woofers behind the seats etc, and the aux cable in doesn't play out the low notes. Bmw reckon it needs flashing.

Soooo

Pagid discs & pads - £85 - Euro Car Parts
Brembo discs & pads - £90 - GSF Car parts (33% off promo code)
Textar discs & pads - £69 - mister-auto.co.uk (15% off promo code)

All seem a reasonable price but if Textar are decent, might as well go with them for the price?

Has anyone had a 320td remapped here? I've just bought a 2001 320TD compact. Standard 150bhp. Looking to get a bit more out of it. It's too good on fuel!

I like that (despite its rather small boot)... until I went to the BMW website and configured one... £41,735.00.

I'm out.

Yeah it's not cheap by any stretch and the one they gave me has just the HK audio upgrade + the swankier 19" alloys + wood/leather trim and that comes to ~£30k I was told!

IMO it doesn't offer a huge convenience given the tiny mileage range at present. It does however have huge cool factor and you just sit there admiring all the money that must have been spent in R&D to make it feel so solid and funky.

Sure, you can get the 30 minute charger station installed (£500, Gov pays for the rest which is something like £1500) but even still, less than 80 miles on a charge won't get you far and if you're stuck in traffic doing start stop motions, that range will fall further as I have found.

With that said, I also want to drive the other similar EVs (Zoe, Leaf, others??) now because all reviews said the i3 drove the best and felt most like a planted and sporty for a town EV of this type. Indeed it's swift and sporty and very well insulted considering it's built almost entirely out of plastic and injected with carbon fibre!

The thing I found especially neat today was that you can get into it and set off onto the road within 15 seconds of unlocking the door from the house front door. I needed some milk and bread for the morning, normally I'd walk to the shops for such a thing but it was so easy and quick to take the i3 it just made me think "This is actually pretty damn cool".

I hate the new key fob though, it's literally a fat square that is uncomfortable in your front jeans pocket. Certainly will be the biggest item on any standard set of keys.

I'm intrigued by what you do that normally makes using a car take longer?

Nothing about my petrol car stops me from walking out of my door and being in motion within 15 seconds, bar the proximity of my car to the door if the parking was busy :p

I'm a bit confused by what the i3 does in this situation that a normal car isn't doing?

Well you put in a key, turn to position 2, let the dash lights go away and start the car, depress the clutch, engage 1st gear and begin to drive off. if it's a cold start you'd take it easy and so on. if it was cold outside you'd also be waiting for the engine to warm up to get heat from the vents.

With the EV it was a simple case of getting in, pressing start, pressing D and off it went full throttle or whatever and heating was instant :p

Edit*
I don't know how better to describe it than that! I would definitely recommend you try one and see for yourself! It is after all free.
