BMW and M Power Owners

You don't have to wait for any of those to go off. You can put the key in and start the car immediately. It's why anything important happens when you unlock the car e.g. the fuel pump starts.

No, fuel pump only starts when you turn the key to position 2 and you can hear it only during that time. The only thing that happens when you unlock the car is the doors unlock. Maybe more modern models prime the engine with fuel when you unlock, but not the ones being discussed above.

I'll race you mrk. :p

Check your whizz bang needle movement out!

Curious question, why do some of you clutch in when starting your car? Do you leave it in gear or something?

Many new cars with start/stop buttons require that you depress the clutch (manual gearbox) or brake pedal (autobox) in order to start the engine.

Doh, of course! I should have realised this as I drive a new VW as work's pool car which has the same thing (though without start stop button). It won't start unless you clutch in which I always think of as tediously dumb.

IIRC, many E46 M3 SMG owners say that the fuel pump primes when they unlock the car or when you open the door (i forget which). I thought it should certainly do it before you even put the key near the ignition barrel?

Sorry, getting completely mixed up.

Many SMG owners state that the SMG pump primes when they unlock the car/open the door.

Can't say I've ever noticed the noise of the fuel pump starting up on mine though? I remember the fuel pump in my 335i always used to make a whirring noise when I unlocked it. Maybe my E46 doesn't have one and just runs on fairy dust. I would go outside and confirm, but:-

A) it's raining
B) I STILL HAVE THIS STUPID USELESS DIESEL SLOW PIECE OF CRAP MERC A-CLASS

Wow it's still not back yet?!

Also, you will be pleased to know I will be getting the BMW BBK later in the year when I come to change pads and disks. I might throw a few questions your way at the time :)

No! :( But I did get an email on Friday saying "come pick it up at midday on Monday!". Unfortunately I work for a living so won't be able to do that. Hopefully I can get off work early and pick it up tomorrow afternoon. I've seen the weather on Tuesday and Wednesday is going to be like 21c and there's no way I'm having windows down with the noise of a dag dag to have to listen to.

And good effort on the BMW Performance BBK. Going to get it fitted ASAP along with the rest of the bits I've got stacking up!

Yep, always leave it in gear unless it's not mine and someone else will drive it after me who might just start the engine without checking.

I always depress the clutch to start a manual vehicle - car or truck - it makes the starter motors job easier. :)

So do I, as that is what I was trained to do by my Dad and my driving instructor. I did however learn to drive in an old manual with manual choke etc, so did a lot differently back then to now.

Well put my 335i M Convertible up for sale on Autotrader Friday and sold it yesterday, new owner picked it up today!

I guess I need to get myself in a nice 530D M (F10) soon ;)

Oh my I forgot how agricultural diesels are, even 6-cyl BMWs :(

Had a look at an LCI E60 525d xDrive Touring. Good spec - nappa comfort seats, extended leather, pro nav, L7, soft close, etc but the dude had 3 kids. Never seen such scuffed leather in my life!
Maybe it was so badly scuffed because the Nappa is softer than the Montana.

On to the next one...
