BMW and M Power Owners

Well the wheels look marginally better up close, I'll give you that. Maybe your old man specced it so because he wanted a more comfortable ride which would certainly explain the tractor profile of those tyres :D

At roughly 9 mins into the video the guy shows difference of exhaust tone between a cold and warm start. I actually don't mind the cold start sound :o sounds like a rough and ready racer.

That video shows the exhaust note changing perfectly :-)

As for the wheel/tire combo you might be on to something there, this'll be used primarily for commuting to and from clients so comfort would have been a priority.

Is it me or does that have new condenser after 30k written all over it?

I imagine the outer pipe flaps only open in Sport mode. Seems most new cars with 4 pipes operate in the same way.

Imagine someone who rarely explores Sport mode for regular driving, must look really odd as 1 pair of pipes age quicker than the others!

Where do you folks get your engine oil from? I need ~6L of Shell Helix Ultra ECT 0W-30 (BMW LL04) and don't fancy paying stealer prices for it, but I'm struggling to find any online...

Thanks guys. BMW now use Shell exclusively apparently. Will providing them with an alternative oil of the same spec be a problem? This is for a premature oil change after running in my new M135i prior to a track day.

The cornering capability on the smaller wheels will still be way above what can sensibly be used on public roads, even after a lobotomy, but the ride will be far better. I somehow doubt that car will be used as a track **** either.

Me too, the smaller wheels look better on e46 m3, e92 m3 and f10 m5 IMO. Function over bling!

Couldn't agree more. Gives the overall look more purpose.

A wheel looks right when the width of the wheel is at least half the diameter IMO. For the rears anyway.

You think the 18" wheels look better on the E46 M3 vs the 19" ones? I think the exact opposite, the 18s look dates and old, the 19s fit the arches much nicer and look fresh.

BMW want to use genuine oils now rather than oil company branded.

Some dealerships may be using branded stuff though. As long as it meets LL04, you don't have to use the genuine stuff

Thanks Simon, the dealership will sell me either BMW branded Shell Helix Ultra, or plain old Shell Helix Ultra, both at rip-off prices. I've found plenty of other brands (Castrol, etc.) that I can get LL04 0w-30 from, so presumably this would be OK?

I've also found a place now where I can get the Shell stuff, but I have to buy 12 litres at a time, and it works out to £10/litre delivered...still half the price of the dealer though!

Anything quality that is of the right grade and LL01 or LL04 approved will be fine for any BMW petrol engine and the dealer should be fine with it also.
