BMW and M Power Owners

Yeah, SE and change the wheels seems to be the way.

Last night I was trying to figure out the best colour to choose where the chrome door surrounds found on an SE are least noticeable, but Fox advised of this tape you can stick over it:cool:

How much better is the M Sport suspension? Presumably it's firmer. Is it adjustable?

Ive heard its nicer to drive but can be too firm for a lot of peoples taste? Just from reading about no actual hands on experiance from me here :D

Cheers for the tips above, mileagewise im expecting arount 60-70k but with full service history i can probably accept that! all my cars have been purchased around the 60k mark! Infact my golf was 103k :O silly me!

Actually rather fond of the convertibles too :O

Colourwise i lile silver or the dark grey tbh!

Anything will be better than my c4, whose clutch is literallly dying as of the past few days so time to change sooner rather than later. Dont expect to get much for it so not fussed about repairing it at this point

Personally I would say that the M Sport suspension is worse on the e9*, it is stupidly harsh. The car may be quicker round a track but it doesn't offer any real benefit on the road and is a lot more uncomfortable.

Just picked up a used 14 plate 330d M Sport. Having come over from the world of Audi (their current range is boring so didn't want another) I have to say the 330d is a hell of a ride in comparison.

All good advice thanks

Whats everyones opinions on automatic or manual for these cars? Im tempted to go with automatic, seems more common in these cars. Not had an auto before mind, opinions?

Will probably go petrol as i dont do that many miles so a diesel doesnt make a lot of sense for my driving habbits

As long as the car is maintained correctly an auto box will outlive the car pretty much.

Sounds good, do the 3 series autos have an option to switch to manual overide with paddles or just an up/down? Or are they fully auto?

Also interms of servicing, what are the common service milestones? I think 60,000 would be one, or is it usually every 10k? Never kept intop of my last car, bit out of the loop

The auto box on the car of the age you'll be looking at isn't nearly as good as the newer ones. But they are okay. I had one of the old 6 speed auto's in my 2010 335d, and it was okay. But the 8 speed auto box in my 2013 530d is damn near perfect.

You should be able to slip it over to sequential manual at least, but the 335d also had the flappy paddles, but they were far from perfect, as each side did BOTH up and down shifts depending on if you pushed or pulled the paddle. Much more intuitive to have one side up and one side down.

I wouldn't necessarily go specifically looking for either an auto or a manual. But rather just look for the right car.

Servicing is Condition Based, so the mileage varies.

Thanks :) yea this is my thinking too tbh, just never thought about an auto until now so i know ill be happy with either :)

Just have to find a goodun now

There is one quite local to me, the nice grey colour, 325i auto 06 plate though but only 30,000 miles with full service history and last serviced just before the 30k! Would that be a good get? Its just over £9k but that mileage is attractive.

Downside though, red leather but it looks ok against the colur of the car not too sure if i like it or not

Newer cars also had the option of the DCT gearbox which had down and up on separate sides, however these will sadly be out of Kinger's budget.

What is possible with older cars however, is to flash the Alpina gearbox software which will change the left paddle to be purely down and the right paddle to be purely up, as well as rev-matching on the downshift for you. I believe this can be done to all cars apart from a few made in a certain timeframe (scratch is the man in the know, he's done it to his 335i), and would definitely take the paddles from being an annoying gimmick, to be actually quite usable.

No they didn't - only the 335i Coupe and Cab ever had DCT offered. The rest of the range, including the 335d, never did and stuck with the 6 speed ZF auto through to end of production.

I think its difficult to see the paddles as anything more than a nice to have gimmick. Mine has them, connected to a better gearbox that gives you complete manual control in Sport mode (ie it wont change up unless using the paddles in manual mode) and I still rarely ever use them.

question about having warranty work done.

If i drop my car off do they supply a hire car for you or can you hire a car?

Do they supply a like replacement?
