Well, my MFD on my 5 series did display some "artefacts" occasionally, so I took it into BMW to get it looked at. I wanted the satnav updated too (not the actual maps, but the software) as there were some inclusions that sounded good, and my NBT had a LOT less features on it than the CIC I had in my 3 series.
So, it went in, and they did some updates. Kinda liking the new set-up on the NBT unit. I usually drive with the split screen showing the trip computer, and that used to just list all the relevant info. But it has now changed. You still get the impotant bits, but it is no longer listed, and instead, the mile count and start time (IIRC) slowly move up the screen as the miles increase, until you get to around the 600 mile mark, where it sits at the top. All the while, with a massive blank section of screen. Weird. Not sure if I like it.
On the flip side though, the update has brought back my "internet" capability I had in the 3 series. Not full internet, but it does allow me to read the news, check the weather, and some other stuff. The Nav part of the computer does now allow me to wiki destinations and stuff, which I couldn't do before. And basically, overall, gives me a lot more options.
My Pro Nav in my F11 is now closer to the functionality I had with my Pro Nav in my E91. So overall I'm much happier. Although it will take me a little while to get used to the new screen layout on the split screen.
On the other plus side, the reset had the guy asking about my phone and stuff, and my connected drive Eco Pro analyser hadn't been working for a while. I put this down to a couple ROM flashes I had done not being compatible.
However, my latest flash is now working, so that's good. And as a result, I have been able to log my journeys again. Now, I was on holiday, so had a car full to the brim with kids and camping stuff, but despite this, I still managed a record score of over 50 mpg on a near 60 mile run. Moreover, my general consumption has increased drastically now we are no longer on winter diesel. Nice. Bear in mind though, these results are often on Scottish back roads, some A roads admittedly, but mostly B roads and windy, hilly A roads. So not too bad.
