BMW and M Power Owners

Are angel eyes standard on those? I guess so, so you just changed the yellow bulb for white ones?

Good job on not smoking the light clusters and wheels and windows like a few I've seen mooching about London!

No, they aren't unless you have xenons.

So had my car serviced and they mentioned the tyre tread. So, I have a 1 series with run flats on all. I don't really like the ride, and the grip is a lot to be desired for. As only my front two need changing, is it a OK idea to change them to normal tyres, then wait for the back tyres tread to go abit more before forking out for another 2?

ignore what the dealer tells you re tyres

last November my car went in for 1st service with about 12000 miles on the tyres, got an a note on checklist that fronts needed changing

fast forward to yesterday and I have ordered a full set of Michelin Pilot Supersports as stock was getting a bit hard to find.

Asked the tyre fitter to check tread depths on all 4 tyres, fronts still have 4-5mm and rears have 4mm, legal limit is 1.5mm over 75% of width and you can practically be showing canvas on outer before you realistically need to change

Even the detailer who did my car a few weeks ago tried to tell me my tyres were marginal, too many people interested in selling you something you don't need in this world.

Anyone here have a current Z4 (E89)?

I am actually in a position to get one of these now, or about 2 months away, and doing my research/waiting for the right one. But one of the most critical thing is the boot need to fit my gear in, including tripod. Could someone tell me what are the dimension of the boot space?

img here

What are A, B, C and also the depth of the boot if I have the roof down? or up?

Also, can I put a tripod in the length of B if I have the roof down?

Thanks
B doesn't exist when the roof is down. the roof is in the gaps (blue arrows) to the side and the roof box thing (has a handle, you pull it towards you, handle is at the top of the pic just below the metal boot line) you have to put down connects to the black plastic bits. What you probably need is an example with the ski pass-through (I think it's an option) which is a hole between the boot and the cabin. It's not a huge hole but it would allow a tripod. Not sure how common it is or if it was a default to be honest, you can easily check most examples on a forecourt. The pass through has a set of removable shelves to put things like sunglasses in mine so if it has this in the blurb then you're probably set.

Nice. I, unlike so many on here, am a fan of the black grills. Also, always impressed by how much more aggressive, and up to date, the LCI looks compared to the pre-LCI. Considering they are essentially the same.
Cheers, I also really love the black grille look, more aggresive. I dislike chrome very much, personal choice obviously.

Actually, all the LCI BMW's come with angel eyes. Both xenon and halogen.

LCI BMW's, so late 2009 onwards, all come with the updated front end, which includes angel eye headlights. Stock they have horrible yellow bulbs in, but it's a simple process to replace them with white LED's instead for a more modern look.

Hmm I actually prefer the yellow ones as it offsets and compliments the Xenon ball of white in the middle, where Xenons are specced.

I've got white LED fog lights to fit at some point too. For some reason BMW like to make it as hard as humanly possible to get to bulbs to change them. It's more or less a wheels and bumper off job, unless you have the hands of a 3 year old and a periscope for seeing.

Why change the foglight bulbs? They make next to no difference in actual fog anyway and I've yet to see a legitimate use of them on the road where they've made a justifiable difference so it seems like a waste of some money to make them look modern when turned on :p

Good point, find a car with the through-loading/ski hatch and you'll have no problem fitting your tripod in.

iDrive is a must along with heated seats and a wind deflector. I would be looking for a very late 2010 car with the upgraded media/bluetooth package (can't remember the option name) because these come with the combox so you can wireless stream music from your phone including spotify/deezer etc.
Other options are not as important IMO, but the heated seats and wind deflector will keep you warm during winter.

This. White angel eyes don't make the front of the car look more modern, they just make it look far more Halfords. The newer BMWs where they are white LEDs from the factory have a slightly different design for a more even light, causing them not to look terrible.

IMHO this isn't nearly as important as you'd think and it rules out a lot of the earlier cars which are otherwise identical and represent great value at the lower end of the market. I wouldn't be looking to restrict choice significantly for the sake of a very trivial option.

i don't use spottily so it's okay by me, the phone will be on a cradle and plugged in via USB so it is charging, that's the way i prefer it.

Also with the money you save buying an older car you can easily afford to buy a new head unit that has all the features you're looking for AND more.

You wouldn't buy an aftermarket head unit for a Z4.. the navigation and infotainment system is all very well integrated into the car.

You could retrofit the Combox that gives you these features for under 500 quid if its that big a deal, though,

The cradle thing is crap, it takes BMW eleventybillion years to bring out updated cradles and they cost a million pounds when they do.

What will really happen is that your phone will stay in your pocket and you'll just have all 5 Taylor Swift albums on a USB stick in the glovebox.
