BMW and M Power Owners

I hope the m3's you're looking at aren't in the 5k range, likely to be absolute sheds! (Assuming e46)

No would be looking at up to about 8.5k max but even that looks like it might not be easy to find a decent manual.

If I went down the z4 route I'd really want the msport seats and aero kit but don't want to spend more than 6k. Hardtop would be an added bonus but they seem rare now. A nice looking one went for 5k last week.

M Sport seats are ultra rare on the Z4 because they were not standard for ages and rarely specified. Basically, give up on a £5k car and if you happen to get them you are very lucky.

hard tops are totally pointless, the Z4 is a car you drive with the roof down unless its raining - all year round. It's like sitting in a coffin with a roof/hard top up :p

£120-150ish

Reasonable, Just need to wait for this feller to post some up to date pictures of the body work.

I'd probably buy a pair in the future if I got a Z4, look so much much nicer and dare say are a much better seat, Not cheap though :D

Gotta love the BMW 3.0 Twin Power diesel 309 BHP 465 lbft, goes like a very goey thing and has done this or there abouts on every mid/long trip I've done in the last month (about 2.5-3k)...

Last time I filled up I had a predicted range of over 700 miles.

I do like the 640d quite a lot, the build quality may have been a little below what I'd expect but its comfy, quick, has an immense sound system and it looks great. Got parking it sorted in the flat car park now, which involves reversing in to the garage, and I'm still scared of scraping the wheels or the nose (because its that bloody long) but with the surround view it makes life much easier.

So we didn't buy the BMW 1 Series 116es in the end, to much frustration. The private dealer messed about so on the basis of it being that hard to buy it off someone how hard would it be if something went wrong in the warranty period.

Back to the drawing board. We still need a 1 series. Can any spec the model one we should get please? its for my girlfriend so no 8ltr quadruple turbos preferably. The only real requirements are reliability and parking sensors:D

Also. Are the auto boxes on these things any good?

So what is it with BMW (and other manufacturers to some degree, but BMW seem the worst) of having all these bloody models, that were previous coupe version then making that supposed coupe version a saloon version....are they going mad?

Don't get me started on all the X vehicles as well, same with Audi and there ever growing Q range.

The 118 offers modest performance and you can find a few with a reasonable spec level. The auto box is fine but I wouldn't want it coupled with a low powered, 4 cylinder car - it'll be horrible to drive in that application

To be perfectly honest, without a decent engine its a bit of a crap hatchback really - I don't understand what even appeals about one?

I'd have a 130i because its a great engine and I can make do with the small rear and boot, but if all you want is a modest engine and hatch I don't understand why you wouldn't just buy a golf or something

You have sub £5k to spend, just buy a nice Focus - many around for this budget.

Why take on the faff of an old BMW without any of the BMW advantages to make up for it?

I agree with Fox; your budget only allows for bottom of the range and under powered BMW 1 Series. Ignore the badge and get something else.

Hi chaps I've got a couple of questions about the new iDrive.

Is there anyway to...

1, Set the drive mode as SPORT as default? Every time I start the car I have to change from comfort and I don't like the comfort throttle response.

2, Keep automatic wipes ON every-time I start the car once again I have to put the wipers on.

3, On the steering wheel next to the audio controls is a flywheel to scroll between tracks etc - when on DAB radio is there anyway to make it scroll your saved radio stations rather than just a list of all the radio stations?

Can't find these options anywhere maybe they're not possible thanks very much.

Afraid not, it's a shame as I've wondered this too.
