BMW and M Power Owners

My car is in the garage today. If I get it back tonight I'll attend the meet up tomorrow, but it doesn't sound likely as it seems to be overfuelling, which is not a common problem on the S54.

Yea i hear what your saying, nothing seems to be popping up around me so when i saw this i thought it might be worth a look as it seems ive been looking for ages lol
may go and look just to test drive it perhaps, i just think i may be being too picky

I think the facelift, mileage and year seemed good compared to others ive seen in my range

Im coming from a poxy 1.6 citroen c4 so anythings an upgrade tbh! Not sure what better i can do on this budget as 325s with better spec dont seem to be that common

You're being far too picky on mileage. 6 year old cars shouldn't really have less than. 60k - particularly diesel (there are always exceptions, but why limit yourself below the average)

Given what you're spending if there's a suitable car anywhere in the country I'd spend the money to go and see it after some phonecalls to make sure everything at least sounds right

Are the auto boxes in the e46 330i sealed? I have this thud when I in normal 'D' mode when It downshifts as I slow down to a stop. I understand it won't downshift to 1st in 'D' mode but will in 'S' mode. I do not have the thud in 'S' mode.

I thought I'd change the oil, but I am skeptical to as if it will make any difference.

I know your right mate, thinking about it i can get better than this one im sure, just been looking for a month or 2 so i think i will now expand my search area and travel further, its not just 3 series ive been looking at so there may be something better for me then, just like the look of these mainly

You can try it but most definitely valve body needs a service.

£400 all in.

There was a gearbox software update to prevent the thud when downshifting in low gears, I believe it was most noticeable going from 3rd to 2nd but may affect others.

Ok thanks. I'll read up on it some more, guessing it's a gearbox out job?

No, drop the pan, remove filter and remove valve body.

Takes about 90-120 minutes in and out. Will need a new filter and fluid also.

If you're near Bham, Driver Transmissions will do this all in within a couple of hours whilst you wait.

This is for the 6hp transmissions and it was more for 2-1 lurch. There have been no serious updates for the 5hp for the last decade or so.

Guess it depends if he wants a reasonably priced BMW warranty or not (goes up after 60k miles).

Also the average drivers' annual mileage in the UK in 2013 was 7900 miles, so a 6 year old car with over 60k miles is technically above average.

Hmm.. wonder what my gearbox was updated with then :p

This is the TSB that I believe I had seen at the time, I took it to a BMW tuning chap near where I live who plugged it in and could see that there was an update available (car is a 2003 pre-facelift 330ci) so could be that later ones already had this update applied. Or possibly I had some really old software :o

I know very little on the autobox on my car other than 1) it can be annoying, and 2) it costs a lot to fix when it does eventually break. I used another company in Bham who charged £950+ VAT with warranty etc. Good service.

Mines a 07/02 330i auto 5speed. Would I have to go to bmw for a software update as it only does it from 3-2 downshift. 2-1 is fine. Could try that as the first port of call.

You'll find the difference between a 40k car and one with 59k enough to bother about though. Most peoole think a car approaching 60k has "high" miles, which is of course just daft.

Not sure i would even bother with warranty (though its quite cheap) on a 325i/330, engine dependent. In fact an n52 330 would be ideal if by some miracle you can find one for sensible money (and don't mind how old the pre facelift now looks)

BMW wouldn't even entertain it when I called a few local dealers (Sytner Solihull & Birmingham).

Got told today that my misfire is most likely because of head gasket failure. Compression next week to confirm. FML.

Doh :( a test is certainly on my pre-purchase check-list although I imagine some owners might be a bit funny about it. I mean what happens if a plug snaps... :-\

Mine isn't showing any of the common signs such as the pinking noise you usually get. If you take it to a proper garage to get the test done I don't see why anyone would mind.
