BMW and M Power Owners

I removed and blanked the swirl flaps on my parents e60 while I was changing the glow plug control module. I did replace the intake manifold gaskets while I was at it, the originals looked OK but did it anyway as they were not expensive.

Yea, I'm thinking the same, for the sake of £7, can't hurt really.

I'll order the pack and do it at some point next weekend.

Any other bits to do whilst I'm rummaging around in that area? I was thinking might as well replace pollen filter. But I highly doubt it's needed...

I am not sure with your engine and relatively low mileage but check plugs and plug module/control unit, just clean some carbon build up out, I replaced the two thermostats at the same time also and cleaned the EGR.

No it's not, the new F11's have NBT iDrive with 10.2" widescreen on Pro Nav fitted models, whereas your X6 has CIC iDrive with an 8.8" screen. The menu structure might be similar but it isn't the same.

The model you drove had Business Nav rather than Pro Nav as with your X6, but it's still a different system.

Fair doo's - it was a small square screen so definitely not the 10.2", that would have looked much more fitting / in place than this tiny thing :(

What's the difference with NBT vs CIC ? The menu structure, map and all that looked the same.

While I'm posting, may as well as you lot this question :)

2015 map pack from the likes of bmw navigation . co . uk...... worth getting? (my map pack is 3 years out of date) I'm assuming this would be the better option than going to BMW to get an update?

Menu structure is similar, but in NBT there are some more options
Maps are improved, better resolution, more detail, faster & smoother movements, plus added live traffic info displayed on map
Extra Bluetooth functionality
New touch controller

There may be more, I'm not sure, but it's a much slicker system and a good improvement over CIC.

Ok thanks for the info. Though I this 5 series didn't have a touch control, it had the same setup as my CIC controls, and my CIC has bluetooth audio streaming / live traffic info etc displayed on the map anyway, hence why I was wondering what the actual difference is.

If it's behind the scene stuff for the most part to make it faster then that's cool, I just couldn't see anything that showed it to be any different really.

The difference in the traffic info is the way it's displayed on the map. In CIC it shows problem areas only (using little triangles related to the direction of the traffic in the problem area) whereas NBT shows traffic info for all routes covered with them outlined in green, yellow & red respectively depending upon the traffic flow situation.

The Bluetooth streaming in NBT is also a bit better in that album artwork is also displayed and you get much more functionality in terms of browsing your music collection via Bluetooth (this functionality was I think only available with extended Bluetooth in CIC).

Fox will know more about this stuff...I'm only speaking from my experiences with a 2011 CIC pro car and a 2015 NBT pro car.

Cool no worries :)

My CIC does exactly what you've just described though, roads are overlayed with a RAG status basically, and ablum artwork streams via bluetooth or USB.

The 10 odd inch screen would have been nice to see in action though - the one in this 5'er just looked tiny :(

So, a 05 E90 that has the iDrive, but the professional navigation upgrade has all the mods and cons?

I've no real care for the 'upgrade' or iDrive, it's just a nice to have but have not looked into it at all.

I assume I'm on the 8" screen as it's certainly not as small as my 5" TomTom (biker one).

Is there a list showing differences on the older models?

EDIT:

Just found this, DAMN nice little project. Might be something to do over winter....

CCC iDrive to NBT.

As Lee says, below a certain RPM only one of the exhausts tips is actually open, and because it's extremely rare that the cars actually go above that RPM, the valve normally ends up rusting shut.

Also quite prominent on the F10 M5, where the outer exhausts are always in use, but the inside ones are only open when in maximum attack, so the outside ones always end up looking quite dark on a car that hasn't been cleaned in a while.

I had a similar issue on a Ducati Multistrada 1200S, butterfly valve seized shut, I simply removed it. I'll be doing the same on the 330d.

My NBT doesn't stream audio at all. You need the enhanced BT for that on the F10/11.
