BMW and M Power Owners

I had a similar issue on a Ducati Multistrada 1200S, butterfly valve seized shut, I simply removed it. I'll be doing the same on the 330d.

Is the rusted shut valve a problem? When I do boot it, exhaust gasses can't get out the exhaust quickly enough because only one pipe is operational?

Does not having the valve effect the noise at all?

Give it a few light taps with a screwdriver / hammer (don't bend it)

Will soon move again

It won't do any harm though, just makes the car a bit quieter under hard acceleration (on the flip side makes it drone a bit if permanently open)

My 320D is coming up to it's first service (Just hit 17K miles, it says 2K until the service is due).

Is it worth taking out the Service Inclusive pack? It's £700 and lasts for 4 years. My mileage is likely to go down slightly to about 10~12k a year.

The car is an ex BMW UK car, I didn't purchase it from new. I phoned a local deal and they said if the car is older than 30 days and hasn't had its first service yet, it'll be £700! :o

I was just on that site, all I get is the following:

"Our records show your BMW is less than 3 years old and is covered by MOT Protect."

I'm aware the answer to this is very much down to the dealer itself so any answer may be pointless, but how long in advance do people generally book a service to guarantee a courtesy car? And is there any extra charge for the car or will it be covered under my service pack? Don't want a repeat of when I dropped it in for warranty work one evening where for transport I was merely given directions to the nearest bus stop (admittedly I hadn't pre-planned anything with them, so this one is equally my fault).

All dealers are different sadly and for some it even comes down to your relationship with them.

I get a car free of charge with very little notice, some dealers charge and require over a months notice. The closer to London you get the more awful the service gets.

I need a couple weeks to get a car. And their cars are very poor. First service I got a 1 series. Last time I insisted on something bigger, and they gave me an X1 stating it was the biggest car they had. Terrible.

My car is coming up for 2 years old, and I swapped out my last car at around this time. If I was my local dealership, I'd be giving me an X5 or something bigger / more expensive than my current car to try to encourage a new sale.

I'm really not fussed what car it is I get given, providing it gets me home and back to the dealer without issue. I have no pre-existing relationship with the dealer, I've used them for servicing but that's it, plus all of my experiences with them so far have been appalling apart from one, so I'm not holding out much hope. Due in ~1800 miles but seems to be approaching rapidly, will phone up in a week or two and see what's what.

Yes you'd think the dealership would have the sense to spot a potentially easy up-sell, but most either don't notice or don't care. I'd quite like to try being a car salesman and would apply lots of common sense to it, just to see if it is actually possible to not be completely terrible.

The problem is I know the dealership quite well, and they know me. And they know I have 2 kids, and all the **** associated with babies and stuff. And know I pretty much have to swap out car seats and prams and stuff when collecting or dropping off. And know I moved on from my 3 series touring because it was too small. AND I specifically ask for the biggest motor they have, AND having been told they would have a 5 series for me. AND STILL they fob me off with an X1 or 1 series.

And they know I have the money, and desire to change cars frequently. But still they don't seem too interested in upsell.

If I didn't have the wife and kids with me whenever the wife says (which is all the time) I wouldn't be so bothered about what car to be fair. But she does insist constantly, and they know that.
